I am trying to confirm information on Thomas Allan and his family. To date, I have not had any luck finding Immigration Records or the Parish they are from. This is what I know:
Thomas Allan born est 1812 from the 1861 and 1871 Census of Canada.
Church of England
He married Mary Mann, Parents James Mann and Elizabeth Irvine.
Two children, Leonard (1837) and Samuel (1842) were born in Ireland.
Estimated that they came to Canada before 1845.
The headstone of Thomas Allan states that he is a Native of Co. Armagh.
I would appreciate help of any kind to prove their existence in Ireland.
Thanks,
Debra Wickham

Debra,
Thomas’s birth and marriage is long before the start of statutory registration n Ireland (1864 for births and 1845 for non RC marriages). So to try and trace the family you need to rely on church records. Not all churches have records for the period you need and not all the surviving records are on-line. You say that the family were Church of England. That’s Church of Ireland, in Ireland.
I had a look on the rootsireland site but there was no trace of the marriage or of the births of Samuel & Leonard. So either the records you need are not on-line or are lost.
There are 29 parishes in Co Armagh (see link)

PRONI (the public record office) in Belfast has copies of all the surviving Church of Ireland records for the county. You need to go in person. The records are on microfilm. It would probably take about half a day to go through them all, bearing in mind some are lost.
I had a look in the 1901 Irish census. There were 6 people named Allan and 478 named Allen, so that’s obviously a much more common spelling in Ireland. You should keep an open mind on spelling when checking the records. Your name may not always have been spelled with an “a”.
