  • Hey Miriam

Thanks so much for taking the time to check this out . This has confirmed I am on the right track and has given me new info to follow up. I live in Australia now after leaving the uk in 2000 but have fond memories of my times with my family in Ireland.

My last visit was to our Dillon reunion in Milford in 2015 where my father was brought up and myGrandad Michael Dillon ,son of John Dillon lived until he died in the sixties. I still have family living in the village.

Thanks again Miriam have a fantastic day

  • Hello

When I saw the name Murnane it rang a bell as I have a Murnane in my family tree from Caherconlish and also a Dillon currently living in Caherconlish..A Margaret Murnane married a John Hayes in Caherconlish in c 1860.They were my great great grandparents.Their son Morgan ,born in 1864, in Caherconlish married a Catherine Coll who was a cousin to Eamon DeValera's mother ,also named Catherine Coll. May,or may not be connected to your family, however, the name Murnane would not be very common.Get back to me if you tink i can be of help

    Regards

  • Hi Kev

I have a 3x great grandmother, Bridget Murnane, born about 1785 in that area. She married Philip Corboy (1772-1844) and they raised their family in the area (Grange, Caherconlish). I believe she had a brother, Michael Murnane, who was a sponsor for one of her children's baptism at Grange in 1816, parish was Murroe Boher.

I know the Corboys stayed in the Caherconlish area, but mine went to Australia (Victoria).

No Dillons in my family though.

I have done my DNA via Ancestry, my GEDmatch kit is XT8212699 in case you have done yours and want to check it out.

  • Further to my note earlier Margaret Murnane  married John Hayes in Pallasgrean parish on 14th jan.1856 and they were residing in the townland of killeagh in caherconlish parish for the 1901 census.Their son my great grandfather was shot dead in Dublin on the first day of the Easter rising in 1916..As i already mentioned this Margaret (Peg) may not be a relative.

Another name mentioned above is Corboy. A Doctor Corboy practiced in Caherconlish in the early 1900's and my grand aunt worked for him . while the Corboys were on holiday in Kilkee in 1921 during the Irish war of Independance  the Irish Republican Army used Corboys house to imprison General Lucas who was the most senior british officer captured during that war.

Not much info there but may be of interest.
