I am eager to find out more information about one of my relatives from Ireland, namely where he lived after his parents Tim Keily and Mary Burke left for the United States in between 1840-43. He and his sister Cath Keily (baptized March 29, 1838 in Glanmire) stayed behind in the Cork City area. I did find a baptism record for Pat Keely (Mick Keely and Catherine Leahy are listed as his parents) for March 20, 1840 for Ringrone Ireland but I’m not sure it’s the same Patrick. But all I have are church records and I cannot find any of these people in the Civil Registration Indexes, even Pat Keily's and Johanna O’Keeffee’s two children born in Ireland, Cornelius (May 13 1868) and John (July 4,1868). If I got the information about Patrick Keily and his wife’s marriage on October 9, 1861 in St. Mary's (Cork and Ross), I could see where they resided. Similary, if I received the information about Timothy Keily (born Jan. 31, 1802) and Mary Burke (1815) –and their marriage in 1837 (June 29, 1837 in Glanmire), that would be extremely helpful in tracking down both Cath Keily and Patrick Keily and where they both lived in the 1840s before they emigrated to the United States in the 1850s (Cath) and 1860s (Patrick). Patrick stayed in Ireland as an infant and so did Cath so we don't know who they were raised by. I really want to know where their parents lived (Tim Keily and Mary Burke) so I can figure out what happened to Cath and Patrick in the years after 1840 until they left themselves for the States. I am coming myself to Ireland soon this week so I would love to visit their townlands! Thank you so much.

Dear Miriam,
Thank you so much for all of this information! I especially appreciate the address. I did find the baptism record of John on July 7, 1868 at St. Mary's (born July 4) and Patrick Kiely and Johanna O'Keeffee are listed as his parents. I was puzzled why we can't find that and the other ones in the civil records. Is there a way to just look at a month, let's say July 1868, and just look at all the entries for Cork City? I thought maybe I could find John that way in the civil records.
According to some family research already done by my uncle, we have Timothy Keily and Mary Burke as Patrick Keily's parents. I suppose that could be wrong, but what we really are confused by is why their two youngest stayed in Ireland. Tim Keily is in West Stockbridge, MA in 1850 and so is Mary and Cath, but not Patrick--he came in 1869. So where did he live in the interim when he was young? The parents Tim Keily and Mary Burke (I can't find their marriage record either in 1837) moved to West Stockbrige between 1840-43 and had several more children there, beginning in possibly 1841 and 1843 (so we know that they left Patrick behind). Their names are: Thomas (1843), James (1841 or 1843), Joanna (1846), Mary (1846), John, Michael, Julia, and Timothy (1855) and Maurice (born and died in 1858). Let me know if more information would be helpful about them. So no, I cannot say for certain that Tim and Mary are definitively Patrick's parents, but I guess we think so based on the other records that we have and that some of these kids lived with Tim and Mary in West Stockbridge. Even Patrick ended up on the 1870 Census in West Stockbridge with his parents Tim and Mary.
So back to Patrick, he is my 4th great grandfather, hence my interest. Our family records show that he was born on March 17, 1840. When I searched for his birth/baptism in ancestry.com, I put in all the information and the only one that seemed to make sense was the one with Mick Keily (Keely) and Catherine Leahy listed as his parents (attached). (The name is listed as Patrick and then these two names. March 20, 1870 and in Cork and Ross). I know that seems odd but if his own parents left (Tim and Mary) shortly after his birth, maybe Mick is a relative of Tim? Also, I saw the name Mick Keily as a sponsor on Cath Keily's baptism (Patrick's sister) in Glanmire (Whitechurch) on March 29, 1838. So I assume that TIm and Mary lived near there? When Patrick was born in March 1840, where were they living? When did they leave? And why can't I find a birth record for him with these parents listed? Then where did he live until he met his wife Johanna O'Keeffee and who was he raised by until he left in 1869? We are eager to solve this long ago family mystery...:)
Thank you so much,
Kelly

Thanks, Miriam, I appreciate your help. I don't know if Patrick could have been born in 1844 since he was reportedly born in Ireland before the two born in the States in 1841 and 1843. I appreciate your insights.
Thanks for your time,

Kelly,
For people researching KELLY; Elinor (Eleanor) McKENNA, (known as the "widow Holmes" ) married Francis Kelly approx. 1855, in Newtownards. Elinor was married to James Holmes, previously. Elinor's father was listed as "Samuel McKenna, and Francis Kelly's father was listed as Cornelious Kelly. I believe their children may have married into the Mahwinney or Mawhinney family.
Cornelius is not a common name and there may be a connection such as grandfather, grand uncle, etc. He was probably born inthe late 1700's as Elinor was 53 or so and Francis may have been a little younger. I think Francis had also been married once before.
