John Fenton born abt. 1830 Clogherny, Tyrone

John Fenton of full age, bachelor, labourer, resident of Beragh, Parish of Clogherney, father Samuel Fenton, farmer, married Margaret Long at Clogherney Meetinghouse on 17 April 1856 by license. Witnesses were William Dick and Robert Fenton. 

Sam Finton was assessed in 1826 in Beragh for 19 acres. There was also a James Fenton there, plus a Robert Fenton at Raw and a John Fenton at Gortaclare. . 

According to a U.S. Civil War record registration record John's mother was Mary Mehan. 

John and Margaret had two children in Tyrone: Robert born 28 Jan 1857 and Mary Jane born 6 Mar 1859. 

John, Margaret, Robert and Mary Jane arrived at New York on 18 August 1859 on the Ocean Monarch. They settled first in New Haven, Oswego County, New York and later in the city of Oswego.

John served in the U.S. Civil War, 81st NY Infantry Sep 1861-Sep 1862. He became ill with typhoid fever and was discharged with varicose veins and his health permanently impaired. 

John and Margaret had six additional children in Oswego.

I have a lot of information about Fentons in Clogherny Parish from ther PRO Ulster Index, early rent records, Spinning Wheel Premium Entitlement Lists, Landed Estate Court Files, marriage records, and General Valuation but have not been able to establish family groups.
