James Quigley and his wife Bridget MacDermott arrived in NSW in 1864 on board the "Queen of the East". The NSW records show that James was born sometime between 1828 and 1835 (all the records differ about the date) in Killeevan, County Monahan. The shipping manifest shows that his father's name was Peter and his mother's name was Catherine McMahon and that both were deceased by 1864.  He joined the RIC in 1852 and resigned in 1857 when he was posted at Tipperary as a first constable.

Bridget McDermott was from Elphin, County Roscommon. (Her death certificate shows she was born in Tully, County Roscommon.) She was born sometime between 1841 and 1844 (again, documents in NSW vary with the shipping manifest) to Peter and Bridget MacDermott. (The shipping manifest shows her parents as John and Dora; her death certificate shows their names as Peter and Bridget Byrne!) The shipping manifest also shows that Bridget had a brother in NSW "somewhere"!

Bridget and James had nine children born in NSW; two predeceased James and another three predeceased Bridget who died in 1893.

Questions: Is there any information in Irish records of :

1. a marriage between this couple (circa 1861/1862) ames' death ertificate shows they were married in 1843 at Co Roscommon; Bridget's shows they were married at Elphin.

2. their parents? (Peter Quigley and Catherine McMahon); John and Dora/or Peter MacDermott and Bridget Byrne

3. Peter Mac Dermott's leaving Ireland

    I did some searching on the subscription site Roots Ireland and had minimal success. I was not able to find the marriage record. The parish register for Elphin https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0556  shows a big gap in marriage records from 1830- March 1864.

    I did not find a baptismal record for James Quigley but I did find an 1839 baptismal record for Bridget McDermott. See transcription below.
