My Great great Grandfather was either Patrick James Gilroy or James Patrick Gilroy. Possibly born around 1838 in Carrick On Shannon. Emigrated to NZ year and ship unknown. Married in NZ to Jane Taylor from England. Is possible his parents were James and Margaret nee Shanley.
Any information or confirmation would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland for all of Ireland for any Gilroy baptismal records where the mother's maiden name was Shanley and no record came up. I also searched for any Gilroy baptismal records in Kiltoghert RC parish which includes Carrick on Shannon and the earliest record was in 1856 for a Fanny Gilroy. Likely James Patrick or Patrick James was baptized in a parish thay no longer has records back to 1838. Any other clues about the family?

I did find a James Gilroy in Mohill who might possibly have been his father but I cannot confirm any dates. Sorry.
