My grandmother, Margaret Forde was born in the Ballyeighter area in 1895. We come to Ireland and would appreciate meeting any family if still in the area.

  • Hi

    Welcome to IrelandXO

Appears Margaret Forde's brother Thomas Forde was present at both of his parents deaths. A John Leahy listed as a Cousin was present at Thomas Forde's death in 1963, was not married.

Do you have any further information to assist us?

    Best regards

  • Many thanks for your reply. My grandmother came to America sometime after the 1911 census. on the birth registery, her mothers name is listed as Mary Forde Connolly. Ther siblings listed in the 1901 census include: William, Matin, Bridget and a niece Delia. She went on to serve in South Africa as a nun and died there. Odd, but my grandmother also died in1963 in our home in Brooklyn. She was married to Thomas Kearns  in NYC from Gurane, near Ballyhannis. We have attempted to locate relatives on both sides, but have only found his family home. We plan another trip in April and will be in County Galway. Do you have a suggestion as to a local parish, or other source that might help locate relatives who are still in the area..

    Many warm regards,

  • Hello Bob, I'm brand new to this site and have much to learn. I came across your post while searching for information on my Forde ancestors. Recently, thorough my research, I found that my 2nd GGMother was Catherine Forde. I have her marriage record. She married my 2nd GGF Patrick Maloney (Molony) at the Roman Catholic Chapel of Kilconickney in Loughrea. The marriage document shows her as living in Raheen, Galway (right near Loughrea). Her father is listed as Darby Forde. He is listed as "dead"  and his occupation was listed as "farmer". Mary Forde is listed as a wedding witness. My 2nd GGPs Catherine and Patrick lived in Loughrea and had numerous children. I see your ancestors came to Brooklyn, as did mine. I was born there and lived there as a child. I have not yet found evidence that Catherine came to the US. In fact, my GGF Edward Patrick Maloney came to the US as a child along with 2 of his sibllings (an older sister Delia C.and an older brother Thomas Joseph). They arrived about 1886 and appear to have arrived without an adult. The children lived in Brooklyn with a paternal (Maloney) aunt. I have no idea if we might have a connection, but who knows? It's challenging when dealing with common names. Maybe future research will shed further light. Barbara
