The records for the RC parish of Termonbarry/Rooskey start in 1865. Since I can't locate any of the baptismal records for the children (other than Patrick;s civil birth record) my conclusion is that the family lived in that area for some time. In fact, the 1855 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Kilglass civil parish  https://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/roscommon/kilglass.htm   shows a Patrick Murphy in Lavagh townland which is the townland shown on the 1864 civil birth record for young Patrick. FYI people who lived in Kilgass parish would have attended Termonbarry/Rooskey RC parish.

I assume you saw the notes on the civil birth record for young Patrick which indicates that the father was in England when the child was born in March 1864. Also, the notes indicate that Margaret was living in the house of her cousin Mary Hoare.

Regarding the records for the workhouse, here is a link to some history of the workhouse http://www.workhouses.org.uk/Strokestown/   At the bottom is a link to the library in Roscommon town. I would recommend that you contact the library and see what records may exist for the workhouse.

Ann, where does Harrington in the title fit in the family? I don't see any mention of Harrington in the text. I have Harrington ancestors, hence I read the post. 

You have put Patrick Murphy's parents as Edward Hoare & Margaret Bram, the same as his wife, Margaret Hoare's parents. To correct your post, click on "My Account" at top of page and then select "My posts". A list of your posts will appear with most recent at the top. Select "Edit" and amend your post.

I'm suspicious of 17th March birthday for father and son. You were lucky to find Patrick's birth registration; civil registration of births had begun only recently. P.S. You're also lucky to have extra information in the notes. Registrar's staff were only just getting the hang of how to do it. Did you notice that the father of another baby on the page was in United States? 

Annorah may also have been Hanora, Honora, Honor, Ann or Nora. 

Ann:  I am a descendent of Patrick and John - John Murphy is my great-great-great-great grandfather.
The direct line from them to me is Patrick to John to his son Jon (one of 13 children) to his son Bernard (also large family) to may grandfather Bernard who only had two children: My dad Bernard and my aunt Darleen.  

John did work for the Union Army stables then moved to Riverton township outside Ludington Michigan.    Link below on family history my dad's mother collected

Here is what we have from family research:

John Murphy was born in Roscommon County in 1839. He emigrated to the USA in 1864 and first worked in the US Army stables . Susan Kellagher was born December 3, 1842 in Lietrim County. She came to the USA in 1855, working as a nursemaid. John and Susan were married July 24, 1864. In 1865, they moved to Mason County, Michigan where John's stepfather (Patrick) and mother (Margaret) had settled in 1843. John and Susan's first homestead was known as Section 14, Riverton Township. John's stepfather passed away in 1878 and his mother passed away in 1898. Both are buried in the Center Riverton Cemetary. Photos of graves below.
John hired out in a saw mill in Pentwater, Michigan for a dollar a day. He bought a shack, contents and all (stove, table and furniture), from a traveler for the sum of $10. The next week John and Susan walked twelve miles to this new home. John would later buy a claim (Section 15) from one Frank Browman across from his stepfather's property using naturalization papers to bolster claim. Over the next few years, the farm was cleared and tilled, lumber harvested. John and Susan had thirteen children.
John passed away in January 1917 at age 78. Funeral services were in St Peters Catholic Church in Riverton and burial is in the Pere Marquette Cemetary in Ludington (Plot 1344). Susan passed away at age 75 a week later with funeral and burial in the same locations. Photos of gravestones below.
Of their thirteen children, John Murphy 2nd (1879-1949) married Daisy Bushaw (1879-1959) and they moved to Muskegon. John 2nd and Daisy had three sons and six daughters. One of their sons, Bernard (1905-1946) married Lorraine Brott (1910-1978), the author of this research. Bernard and Lorraine had two children: Darleen and Bernard (Bud). Bud married Sandra Joslin in 1959 and had three children: Dennis, Janice and Glenna. Bud and Sandra divorced, Bud later married Cheryl Hopkins, adopting Jeff. He would also later adopt Denise. Bud passed away in October 2005.
