I have an ancestor, my 5xGreat Grandmother Judith D'Arcy whose family origins are a complete mystery.
She married Robert Suffield on 24th May 1788 in Fakenham, Norfolk, England and on her marriage certificate her father is given as a Captain D'Arcy and she is said to be from Dublin, Ireland.
Witnesses to the marriage are Daniel and Mary Jones (possibly her sister and brother in law) and Francis Munhall, all very Irish sounding names.
The Suffield family of Norfolk are a very prominent family and generally very easy to research, except for Judith D'Arcy who is a complete mystery.
Judith's son Captain Henry D'arcy Suffield married Maria Augusta Cramer the daughter of Wilhelm Johann Cramer (famous German violinist) and Maria 'Mary' Madden of Dublin. Henry Suffield and his wife Maria moved permanently to Ireland about 1815.
Also, just for the history enthusiasts, Jane Mary Lucretia Cramer, the sister of Judith's daughter in law Maria Augusta Cramer, married John Gratten Guinness after her first husband John Neville Norcott D'Esterre was killed in a famous Irish duel against Daniel O'Connell.
So clearly there is very strong family connections to Dublin although Judith D'Arcy lived in England after her marriage in 1788 and she died in London in 1810.
The only birth record that I can locate that is a good fit for Judith D'Arcy is for a Judith Darsy born 1759 in Dublin to a Thomas and Elizabeth Darsy. Dublin and 1759 is a good fit for Judith etc but with the differently spelt surname it is merely speculative at best.
Anybody that likes a good mystery and who can shed any light on the family origins of Judith D'Arcy, be my guest.
Help appreciated, thanks Mark H.
