We are searching for verification that our John Rock was originally from County Roscommon, Boyle Parish. The 1850 U.S.A. Census lists John Rock, age 24, living in the Dixon Township of Lee County, Illinois, with his wife Mary Rock age 23. We know with certainty that this John Rock is my husband's 3rd great grandfather, and we know from subsequent Census records that he was born in Ireland. I have contacted distant cousins who say that he was born in County Roscommon in 1821, and indeed I have found a baptismal record that a John Rock was baptised 2 July 1821 in Boyle Parish, to Patrick Rock and Anna Mcniece. However, how do we know for certain? Can anyone help me with any further evidence? Another of his brothers also emigrated, named Patrick Rock born 1822 Ireland and died 1900 in Illinois, USA.

I loked at ths subscription site Roots Ireland and located an 1823 baptismal record for a Patrick Rock with the same parents as John. There baptismal records for four siblings: William 1817 Mary 1819 Martin 1825 Luke 1826 The parents were married February 28, 1813 in Boyle (no witnesses shown)
Based on the info you have with the matchup of Patrick's baptismal record, I'm confident that this is your family.

Thank you for your kind reply. I do have another few questions. I have noted that Patrick Rock's (born 1823) father, also named Patrick Rock, was born in 1795 in Boyle and died in 1865. I have recorded that his parents were Patrick Rock and Margaret Murray. I am looking for other relatives of this Patrick Rock, including brothers, uncles, and grandparents. Do you think any of this information might be available? Thank you!

I did a search on Roots Ireland and did not find any siblings to the 1795 Patrick. The Boyle baptismal records start in 1793. No luck with a marriage record either. Here is a link to the parish register https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0548 There is a gap in baptismal records from 1796-1803.
