Hi,
I have ancestors who lived in Ure in the Kiltullagh parish in the 19th Century. I cannot howver find any other reference to this place and I certainly can't find it in Google Maps today. Does anybody know where in Roscommon it could be found. My great, great grandfather Pat Coffey was born there before marrying. He ended up in Marystown so I don't imagine it was too far. The rest of the family was from Trien & Carraghs which are all a stone's throw from each other. But where on earth was Ure?

The Fortaugustus Coffeys are different to those in Ure. I have seen separate death certificates for Michael Coffey of Fortaugustus and Michael Coffey of Ure, My Michael Coffey's registration of death puts him at Ure in 1892. Earlier parish records show his marriage and the birth of his son in Ure too. Perhaps I will try the Roscommon Heritage site so thanks for that and thanks for trying!

I asked an associate of mine ( Martin Meehan) about Ure since Martin was from the area. He sent me this link to some old maps. If you hit the link to the second map you will see Ure to the right of Marystown and Robinhood. The site indicates the map was from the late 1700s possibly to 1840 which would have been prior to when townlands were standardized which occurred around 1851.

This was very helpful. The location of Ure is very close to where the rest of my family is from. It took a while to get my bearings but it appears that the map doesn't follow the conventional North, South, East and West of modern maps! Again - thanks a lot for your help.
