George Rogers and Mary Kerr were married December 19, 1838 in County of Louth, Archdiocese of Armagh. I found a death notice for Mary Rogers in "The Drogheda Argus" Saturday August 5, 1882. In the deaths section, it says: "On the 28th ult, at Rogerstown, after a short illness, Mary, relict of the late George Rogers. Her remains were interred in Drumar churchyard on Sunday last." I'd like to find any family records at the church or any family tombstones. Thanks for any help.

Hello Sara, I found the civil record for Mary's death in Rogerstown and attach below, son Patrick present at death. Also found a George Rogers died in 1877 in Drogheda Registration district, cannot view the cert online as yet but you could purchase for at most €4 and have it emailed to you but they are promised to be free online but deadlines have been missed. See https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/civil-search.jsp Church records not available for Louth only civil at this point. Free but sign in etc Geroge may have died in Drogheda which would have been the larger town at the time and still, but it was heavily industrialised back then and a major port.
The fact her death was in the paper would indicate that it was of some importance and may have led to a headstone but I cannot see it recorded here which is a list of transcribed headstones most of which I can access. http://jbhall.clahs.ie/
I cannot find the name Drumar at all, the nearest is Drumcar but that is not close to Rogerstown. The parish appears to be Tallenstown and I assumed religion is RC. I live about 20 miles away so have not got a lot of local knowledge for that area.
There is a Louth Genealogy Facebook page, private page and apply to join and it is possible someone will be aware of the graveyard. If you can firm up on the location it is possible I could have a look if I was in the area but with out prior information it is needle in a haystack think.
Regards and Happy New Year

Hi Pat. Thanks for your reply. I’m excited to get Mary’s death record. Her burial was in Drumcar. (I didn’t catch my typo.)
In Griffith’s Valuation in 1854, George Rogers lived in the Parish of Drumcar, village of Annagassan. I also have a record of his living in Plunkettsland. Mary and George had three children: Patrick born 1842, George Bernard born 1844, and Bridget born 1846.
George Bernard immigrated to New York in 1869. He lived in Dubuque, Iowa in 1870 close to Peter Rogers. Peter was born in County Louth in 1815 and immigrated in 1849. His wife was Catherine Mooney and their children were Patrick, Michael, Mary, George, Kathryn, Thomas, Jane, John, and Bridget. I’m wondering if Peter Rogers is an uncle of George Bernard Rogers (he always used Bernard or Barney). Let me know if you have any ideas of how to research Peter Rogers.
Happy New Year to you also!

Hello Again Sara, I was having some doubts on our death certificate as it was far from the burial spot for the time. However we still have issues but some information. I am using the subscription site Roots Ireland who have some extra church records it appears to me, the site admin give volunteers access but there are restrictions and I am not sure what is happening tonight but I am getting some searching tonight but then asked to log in again, am assuming it is a problem on the site and maintenance is not back until Monday, the country was more or less stopped since the Friday before Christmas, Irish thing at Christmas.
Anyway I found the child siblings you mentioned born in Togher parishs in the 1840s, mother listed as Mary Carr (I have Carr ancestors, not here but in the west of Ireland, and the Carr / Kerr thing recurs most search engines return both but not this time)
However I also found another George Rogers producing offspring in the same parish, this time mother is an Ann Bannon, so a wee bit of confusion possible. Bear with me.
Looked for the marriage and found that George Rogers married Mary Kerr in 1838 and her address is given as Stonetown, this may explain the death in Rogerstown, there is a Stonetown Upper and Lower and they appear to be close to Rogerstown so it is possible she died visiting a relative or went home to die (my conjecture) and back to Drumcar for burial. From the 1838 marriage the 1st child was born in 1842 and then 2 more, not a lot of children for the time but that was there own business but I could see no more but will hopefully check into the 1850s.
THe reason I go on is when I looked I found 2 Peter Rogers born in 1814 and 1815, both in Togher one in Finvoy and one in Salterstown. you can see the various locations here https://www.townlands.ie/louth/
I am gettng long winded Sara, I looked at your 3 siblings and oddly two are baptised with a Finvoy address and one Bernard with Rogerstown, but all in Togher parish, going that your address is Finvoy then your Peter Rogers was baptisd on 5th March in 1815 father was Patt Rogers and mother was Ally Read (or Reid possibly) witness were Denis Quinn and Jane Hoey, like the witnesses in all your entries the names are common in mid Louth, the wife of the Salterstown Rogers was a Hardman, locla name but unusual and i assume there was some relationship.
I have copied the various dates and names but you may prefer to have a look yourself not that I have given you the years etc. You should be able read the entries here https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0236
I have answered a few queries for that area were people left around the 1850 mark what ever was going on there then. The surnames were Markey (sponsor on one of your baptisms) and Carroll.
I have a number of transcriptions for graves in the area bot only see one Rogers entry and that is for Mosstown which is not that close, I attached it anyway and cannot see a suitable civil records for the Pat Rogers mentioned. Are you aware of this free site https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/
It may be mid week before I get back to this if you have any follow up.
Regards
Pat

Back again Sara, as I have searched this area before it dawned on me that some places do not appear on maps or are even known to locals and so it is with Rogerstown, a place it appears named for your family, it is recorded it the Tithes and the 6 people living there include a family of Reed (mother of Peter name) so we may be on the right track, this is the direct link and if you go to the home page you can see what the Tithe Applottments are (taxes really) years done 1824 to 1838.
Definitely off now,

Hi Pat,
Thanks so much for all your time and perservision in the research of this Rogers family. By using your findings and the web links you provided, I was able to find 4 children born to Pat Rodgers and Ally Reed. They were Mary in 1807, Andrew in 1809, George in 1812 and Peter in 1815.
Knowing this information, I looked for descendants of Peter Rogers in Iowa. I found one of them in the list of DNA matches for my father-in-law at the 3rd cousin level. My father-in-law is from the George Rogers line from Massachusetts and California. Both these lines have the common ancestor, Pat Rodgers as above. This confirms the paper trail!
I'm excited to share this information with other family members!
Thanks again,
Sara

Hi Sara & Pat,
I am a DNA match to people in this family (Father 54cm and son 48cm). I have not figured out how we are related. My Sheekey family comes from this part of County Louth.
My 2nd Great Grandfather Bartholomew Sheekey married Ann Gaynor/Gainor 8-6-1848 Drumcar. They had children born in Gallagh and left for the United States in 1851. I found a baptismal record for Ann born to John Gaynor and Mary Boylan Drumcar. Looking at the shared matches; I think the connection is through the Gaynor family but I am not sure.
