Having all sorts of problems on Ancestry with other people conecting the wrong Bridget to this marriage and I keep getting potential ancestors that are not on my daughters line.

Our Patrick Gargan did not marry Bridget MacCabe but Bridget Smith or Smyth.

This is what I know so far and would be greatful for any help in moving further.

Annie Gargan born 12 Jan 1903 in Kells, County Meath  In 1911 she lived in Trohanny, Meath. She emigrated to USA in 1921 with 2 sibblings. Married in NY 1928.

Her parents were:
Patrick Gargan / Garrigan Born Meath c1866 died 1944 Kells, Meath, to John Gargan born c1827 died 1893 Meath and Elizabeth (Bessie) Millady or Mullady born Co Cavan 1827

Bridget Smith/ Smyth born c1871 in Meath I cant find anything on her other than her marriage to Patrick on 29 Sep 1897 in Newton Meath.

i believe her Grandparents were
Patrick Gargan and Ann Chance  (from Johns Baptism record on Ancestry)

Any help greatfully recieved, thank you

Helen

Hi Helen, Bridget and Smith what difficult names to trace, I attach what I assume is the marriage egister entry for Bridget from the free Irish Genealogy website, sign in etc, birts etc post 1864 only under civil records, there will be no church records on it so stick to civil. I also found a birth for Bridget in 1870 father Patrick, only 4 Bridgets in Meath from 1870 to 1872 and only one father Patrick. The mothers name is Catherine Naulty (probably more Nulty now) The parish is Kilbeg which is close to Moynalty near Kells in Meath but on the Cavan border.

I could not find a marriage for Pat and Catherine but found a possible one in about 1859 or 1857 of a Patrick Smith and a Catherine Priest (weird may be a mis transcription). There were 7 children to Smith / Naulty with two Margarets, assume the elder one died in infancy, born in 1861. Oddly there is an Anne and a Margaret baptised in 1861 in Kilbeg, but one in April and one in July, baptisms at the time where usually done within 2 or 3 days in case the child died. There was only one male in this list of 7 children I think, a Denis. The spread is 1861 to 1876 and the later ones post 1864 should be on Irish genealogy here https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/ remember to click civil records.

There was a census in 1901 and 1911 and is free to search here http://www.cenloosus.nationalarchives.ie/ defaults to 1911. Church records can be searched here but only by month and year https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0942 The siblings were Anne and Margaret 1861; Catherine 1863; Mary 1865; Margaret 1876 and Denis 1878. I search on the subscription site Roots Ireland from 1860 to 1880.

I realise this is not the names you gave me but I went from the Bridget birth with matching father in Meath, found 3 in Cavan but mothers name not as you mentioned either, years 1868 to 1872.

Please revert if you wish to look some more.

    Good Luck

    Pat
