Patrick,Winie, Margaret, & possibly a William McFadden, ( various spellings) all from the vicinity of Towney and Kilcar. Arrived in New York City 1849. All married in US. Later removed to Canton, Illinois by 1874. Patrick was a fisherman in Towney or Kilcar when old enough to do so. He named his first son James, First daughter Ellen, second daughter Mary A., Followed by son Charles, and then son John. DNA points to marriage with Doherty, and O'Donnell families. Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
Unfortunately, the RC baptismal records for Kilcar parish do not begin until 1848. I looked at the townlands for Kilcar civil parish and there is a Tawny townland which I presume is your Towney.
Here is a link to the 1857 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Kilcar civil parish https://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/donegal/kilcar.htm You will note five different McFadden households in Tawny.

Dear Roger,
Many thanks for the above list. Several of the surnames ring true as recently revealed 3-4th cousins on my DNA test, such as the names Carr, O Donnell, Hagerty, and Doherty currently in Ireland and worldwide. Again, thanks for your prompt reply and kindness. Go Raibh Maith Agat.

The names in the Tithe Applotments 1833 were Denis, James & Michael . It is possible that Patrick was the son of James . We have an idea of some of the children of Michael but are still trying to unravel the rest.
I will show your message to local's whom might be able to tell us more

Just received a note from a local in Meenlargh who stated they may have been same family who began the old McFadden Hotel in Gortahork. Time will tell please God.

Again, many thanks for the follow up reply. The McFaddens of which I belong kept close association with Donegal people in New York, possibly were cousins or in-laws, as RC Church Records ( online RC Records from Diocese if New York) show sponsers names for baptisms and wedings as Doherty, Cunningham, Breslin, Campbell, Maguire,Gallagher,Byrnes. " Finally, an interesting excerpt from title " The Great Famine in South West Donegal 1845-1850" Pat Conaghan mentions a "...Pat...Charles...John ...McFadden, as well as the family names mentioned previously in an 1846 letter to the Rector in Kilcar regarding famine relief. It was a smaller world back then in the Parish.

Pat:
Glad to assist. I also have a great-grandmother, Catherine McFadden, who came from Deryreel in Raymunterdoney parish further north from Kilcar. She went to Philadelphia. I did a one to one match on Gedmatch and we do not share DNA. All the best with your research!

In the Tithe Apploment record (c 1833) the townland of Towney is divided into three sections, Towney-East, Towney-Middle and Towney-West and once again in the 1846 "Rent Roll" there are these same divisions. Apparently each of these divisons represent a cluster of homesteads dating back at least a generation or two from when the townlands were originally let. In the Tithe record there were no McFadden households in Towney-West (where my family resided) while in Towney-Middle there were leases for these three, Michael McFadden, James McFadden and Dennis McFadden. In Towney-East there was one McFadden household, Edward McFadden. In Towney-Middle the three McFaden households are grouped together along with a James Cunningan (possibly married a McFadden daughter?).
1846 Rent Roll
Towney-West No McFadden households
Towney-Middle Mary McFadden (Widow), Michael McFadden, James McFadden
Towney-East Edward McFadden
1852 Rent Roll No longer divided into sections
Michael McFadden (small holding), Patrick McFadden Jr., Edward McFadden (late Patrick), John McFadden, Dennis McFadden.
Hope this is helpful.

In GEDMATCH, WE have a very sold hit on chromosome,8 what that means I claim ignorance. It's been a long time but this endeavor takes time! Obviously, we have a common great grandparent.
My GEDMATCH number to compare is A309622

Just read your post for content. James was our great great grandfather. ( On my side) Father's. This is the first direct DNA link I've had to Patrick McFaden ( McFadden) from Towney Middle. Great to hear from you cousin.
