Hi all, I'm looking for information regarding family Davison, specifically Robert Davison bc 1804, recorded as 'Davidson' in Ireland Valuation Office House Books between 1838-1840 in the townland of Leiter, Enniskeen (not the present-day townland of the same name to the north west of Bailieborough). He again appears in a 1857 Landed Estates Court Rentals record outlining the lease held in Leiter, which makes specific reference to his emigration some two years prior, which we know to be true. We have his story in Australia but are hoping to find out more about the family in Ireland.
We suspect the family were Presbyterians as we have a marriage certificate for one of Robert's daughters (Catherine to Hugh White 1852) in Ervey Presbyterian Meeting House.
As yet, we have not been able to verify Robert's own family background or siblings other than William (also recorded in Leiter), however we believe he may have met and married his wife (Jane Mahood) in Knockbride, as this was where her wider family originated. We know there were Davidsons in Knockbride and are currently exploring links.
It seems that the name was often spelt with a 'd' (Davidson) and we are checking both versions of the name.
Would love to hear from anyone researching this family name in County Cavan/Meath.

Greetings from Bailieborough. I am aware of two Davidson families who lived in these parts both were Presbyterian. One family attended Glasleck Presbyterian Church (Shercock) the other family attended Corraneary Presbyterian Church. In Glasleck church's financial report dated 1865 there is a Robert Davidson listed and again in 1897. The graveyard map records Robert Davidson, Dromod but on the ground there is no headstone or grave markings. This family no longer exists in the area. The Davidson's who attended Corraneary church have decendents still living in the area and if you send me an email (address on attached website) I can put you in touch.
