My great grandfather was James Wallace born about 1841. His father name was Thomas. James married Catherine O Dea in 1864 at the church in Martinstown. Catherine's parents were John O Dea 1799-1877 and Mary Lynch 1809- 1883. James and Catherine had a grocery shop at 11 Upper William street, Limerick City. They came from Gormanstown, Bulgaden, Kilfinnane area of Limerick. Catherine died in 1900 and James died 1925, both of them are buried in Mount Saint Lawrence, Limerick City.

Hello Linda,
I found the baptism record for a James Wallace as well as the baptism records for 6 of his siblings. In the 7 baptism records the father's name is Thomas Wallace and the mother is Ellena/Helena Mulcahy. All the children were baptized in the Bulgaden Catholic Parish, County Limerick between 1839 and 1847. James was baptized in 1840. If you believe this is the Wallace family you are looking for I can forward copies of the original baptism records for the children.
I haven't as yet found the baptism record for Catherine O'Dea, but may have uncovered the marriage record for her parents, John O'Dea and Mary Lynch, though I can't be entirely sure this is the correct marriage record for your particular O'Dea and Lynch ancestors.
I can send these to you after receiving your reply if you think they pertain to your ancestors.
Best Wishes,
Dave Boylan

Thank you so much Dave. It could be the Wallace family that I am looking for, please do send on the records to me. On Catherine's record, she died in 1900 aged 55 years (birth 1845) but on the marriage record 1864, she is 22 years old ( birth 1842) irishgenealogy.ie. John O Dea and Mary Lynch got married on 23 may 1830 (if that is the correct one) Bruff. Both of them are buried in Dromin cemetery. I would also like to get their marriage record. Thank you again Linda

Hi Linda,
My great great grandfather was the same James Wallace. I wonder how we are related?
i am related to James as follows:
His son Thomas (d. 1914, aged 45), had 3 children that survived infancy: Catherine/ Kathleen (my grandmother), James and Thomas.
Kathleen (d. 1985, aged 85), had 5 children, including my mother Eileen.
Which of James’s children was your grandparent?
Regards,
Frank

Hi Frank, Thomas had a brother James Frances Wallace (Frank) 1882-1951. That is my grandfather. There were 17 children in that family. Their Mother was Catherine O' Dea 1845-1900. Regards Linda

Hi Linda,
OK, am I right in placing you as a niece of Wally (James Wallace), who lived and died in Waterford and had 8 children- 4 with his first wife and 4 with Auntie Peggy? (we used call them Uncle Wally and Auntie Peggy, even though Wally was actually a first cousin of my grandmother’s (Kathleen Gough née Wallace). Wally and Peggy were both at my wedding back in 1995. Good people. I am still in occasional touch with his daughter Sheila. She would be your first cousin?
Regards,
Frank

Hi Linda,
Nice to be in touch with you! My mum (Eileen O’Neill née Gough) was very fond of Wally and Peg. Do you recall ever meeting her, or my grandmother, Kathleen Gough?
They lived in Sweet Briar in Waterford City, a short walk from the Three Shippes where Wally lived for many years. One of his girls - Margaret or Frances - used sometimes babysit for me and my sister Cathy.
Do you have an email address? I tried to upload some photos for you, but it wouldn’t accept the format they were in.Best regards,
Frank

Hi Frank,
Nice to be in touch with you too. I knew that I was related to the the Gough family but I didn’t know any of the family or their names until I started doing my own research a couple of years ago. I did meet Wally and Peg up to my late teens but I had left Limerick soon after and wasn’t there when they would call to see my Mother. I did meet some of my first cousins but I can’t really remember them as I was about six years old.
l have sent an email to Ireland reaching out to see if they can give you my email as I don’t want to put it on an open platform.
