Hi, I am searching for any information about James Swan / Swann, born around 1820, to X unknown Swan / Swann and Margaret ? Swann (maiden name unknown. Family history records that James came from a small village near Blackwater, County Wexford. My research suggests Ballina, or Ballyvalloo James had a number of brothers, called, William, Edward, John (who purportedly went to Troy, New York State) and Charles, and sisters called Margaret and Ann / Anne who married X Cash / 'Cashe. James sailed out to Australia, around 1840, but may have travelled through USA, through San Francisco. He ended up in New Zealand around 1845. He settled in Raglan, North Island. New Zealand. Any assistance in identifying his place of birth, parents (and their death details) and his siblings would be much appreciated. Thanks Stephen Schollum, Cambridge, New Zealand.

Hi there
I am a descendant of Mabel Swann daughter of James
who married Patrick Dolan
they had seven children
James married philomena Bradley and they had six children
my father Kevin being one of them
According to the information I have which you are probably already aware is that James Swann left county Wexford in 1846 settled around raglan
traded with locals and Maori people up the east coast of south island and west coast of the north island
I am curious how a 26 year old was wealthy enough to have his own boat and anything else you know
thanking you
regards
Tony Dolan

Hi Tony and Rochelle I may have replied to you earlier, but my computer files recently got corrupted, so I am going through old IrelandXO messages for all families I follow. If you are still seeking James Swann family information, please contact me @ stephenschollum@gmail.com In reality I haven't found much new about James Swann so if you have made any discoveries, I would love to share information, especially his place of birth, and the names of his parents, although I suspect his mother was called Margaret, as this may explain why his first daughter was called Margaret. Also, if you have discovered anything about his siblings, especially Charles who most likely was in NZ as James left him a bequest in his Will. Also, if anyone reading this posting and has information, please contact me. Regards, Stephen Schollum, Cambridge, New Zealand.
