Sarah Ann Power was born in Wicklow in 1829. Her father's name was John Power. Sarah Ann, known as Ann, married James Mcpherson at Portland Bay Victoria Australia in 1850. She died in 1872 and is buried at Old Dunkeld Cemetery in Sth Western Vic Australia. I would like any information on this Power family in Ireland. Sarah Ann ( nee Power) Mcpherson was my Great Grandmother. Sincere Thanks, Frances.

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland in Co. Wicklow from 1824-1834 for Power baptismal records with father John. Six records came up but none were for a Sarah or an Ann.
Do you have any other info on siblings, mother's name etc.?

Thanks so much, Roger.
I have the Australian Birth Cert of one of Ann's children. It states Ann Mcpherson was 34 yrs old in 1866, her maiden name was Power, her father was John Power, and she was born in Wicklow Ireland. This of coarse indicates she was born in 1832.
Ann Power's marriage to James Mcpherson was on 28/05/1850 at Portland Bay Vic Aus. Her age is stated as 21 years on the Marriage Certificate. This indicates she was born in 1829.
Ann Mcpherson's Death Cert 18/05/1872 lists her father as John Power, but there is something under it that I cannot read. I assume it is her Mother's name. Looks like Nil Stevenson. The Death Cert states Ann was born in Ireland and had been in Vic Aus for 20 years. It also states she was 17 yrs old when she married 'John' Mcpherson at Branxholme Vic. His name was actually James Mcpherson so there appears to be some errors on the Death Cert. Ann's Death was reported by a friend, not her estranged husband. The plaque at the Old Dunkeld Cemetery where Ann is buried names her as Sarah Ann Mcpherson, as does her son's Death Cert many yrs later. The date on the plaque correctly has Ann's death/burial date. It's evident that Sarah Ann ( nee Power) Mcpherson used the Christian name of Ann. I really want her to show up somewhere on Irish records, and sincerley appreciate your help. Frances.

Hi Frances!
I searched Roots Ireland for any Power baptismal record where the mother's maiden name was Stevenson but no records came up.

Thanks Roger. I'll ask someone at the local Hist Soc to read the signatures on the Certs for me. Hopefully I'll learn the correct surname for my GG Granny from Wicklow. Then perhaps you'll be kind enough to look it up for me. Yes, I know, I should have done that in the first place. Regards, Frances.
