Can you share a copy of the 1899 marriage record? 

If Patrick was 36 in 1901 then he would have been born around 1865 rather than 1875.

I located a civil birth record and related baptismal record for a Patrick Burke with father Thomas Burke and mother Mary Kelly in 1866 which would match the age 36 in 1901. However, where the family lived was much further south in Co. Galway down by Loughrea. Possibly they moved north later. Please review the two records below and see if you think they are for your Patrick. Did he have siblings?

Thanks so much for your reply, please see attached the 1901 Census, also the 1911 and the Marriage Certificate and Civil Record, the Church Document is at work so I cannot include it until tomorrow, but it only includes Patricks Mothers name as Mary, no surname.

I have no idea whether he had brothers or sisters , all I know is that my Grandmother said he came from a large family, his Wife Cecilia had around 9 brothers and sisters and when they moved to Manchester they went to live with one of her sisters before moving in next door to them, they are down as Mary & Michael Birmingham on the 1901 census living at number 20.

On the 1911 Census they have put down that they are both from Gorteenaveela and age 36, and age 24 on the 1901 census.

I really have drawn a blank with trying to gather information for him but appreciate any help you can give me.

I have gone back and forth searching for the elusive Patrick Burke son of Thomas Burke and Mary Kelly. I ruled out the1866 Killeendeema record shown in my prior message because when I looked for siblings, there was another Patrick Burke born to that couple around 1876 which would indicate that the 1866 Patrick died young. I looked at the 1901 census for the area around Clontuskert and there was only one Burke family. The head of household was a 64 year old Patrick Burke and he had one son, Patrick Burke age 31 and unmarried. I ruled out this family. I then broadened the search and looked at Co. Roscommon records since Clontuskert parish borders Roscommon. I found a Patrick Burke born in 1862 in the Ballybay parish to parents Thomas Burke and Mary Kelly and he had many younger siblings but unfortunately there was also a Patrick born in 1883 again indicating that the 1862 Patrick had died.

So at this point, I'm stuck also. Let me know if any new info turns up.

Hi Roger,

It is so frustrating, I have been searching for nearly 15 years with no luck, It grates me that he was supposed to be from such a large family and i am on every Ancestry site going and more,  that no one else seems to be looking for my side of the Burkes.

I have found 4 children for them but they all seem to be named after the parents and the Grt Grandmothers side of the family, unless Patrick Burkes siblings were coincidentally called the same names?

I also checked the 1901 Census and found there was only one Burke family in Clontuskert, how is that?  unless the Patrick Burke on the Census is a relative. I am waiting on yet another death certificate and if anything proves fruitfull i will contact you.

I only recently discovered irelandox; it is quite interesting to read of family searches by others.  Yours was particularly interesting in that it includes similar information to mine.  

If any help, I report my own family in Clontuskert Parish.  My great grandparents, John and Maria (Fahy) Burke were married in Clontuskert  12 June 1871 shortly before they emigrated to U.S. (eventually San Francisco).  John was baptized in Ballinasloe Parish 3 Sept 1841 (though his youngest siblings were baptized in Clontuskert Parish).  Maria was baptized in Clontuskert Parish 16 June 1845.  I visited the area, staying near Kellysgrove, last year; it was lovely with many helpful locals.  The cemetery at Clontuskert is very well kept with a detailed map nearby.

I relied primarily on RootsIreland for my research, though I started with their death records and headstones, the latter thoughtfully including the town from which they came as well as County Galway.
