I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland and did not find any other baptismal records for siblings to Thomas. I did not find a baptismal record for Hugh Canning but did locate a possible lead for Ellen Dowling. That is great info on Ellen!  Are you able to identify death dates for Hugh and Ellen?  

Also, I have a pretty strong DNA match through a descendant of James Canning born in Ireland in 1830.  I was hoping to find he was another son of Hugh and Ellen.  But maybe James is the son of a brother of Hugh Canning?  Can you see if you can locate a birth certificate for James Canning in 1830 (I am assuming it would be in Kilkenny County too.

Hi Maureen!

No baptismal records for James Canning in Kilkenny city.  Civil death records started in 1864 and I searched but did not find any Hugh or Ellen Canning records.
