Hello-
I'm looking for anyone connected to either Pennefather (sp?) from possibly Moycarkey or Galbertstown, and Meagher (location unknown).
Edward Meagher was born in 1831 and came to the US in the early 1850s, settling in New Jersey, later Brooklyn. He married Catherine Pennefather in 1855 in New Jersey.
Thank you in advance - glad to be here.

Hi CATHI . . .
Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out . . and . . Tipperary County . . .
Not sure if can be of much kelp to your search . . given . . the little info.you start with . . . however . . .
I started my search on " Roots (paid). . looking for Ed.Meagher b.1831 . . Thurles area . . . Moycarky / Galbertstown . . . (see below)
Roots . . tell me . . 10 Meaghers were born in Tipperary . . between 1826 - 1836 . . . of which TWO only look hopeful . . (below)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Edw.MAHER . . .born 1833 . . is the ONLY . . . MOYCARKY . . . showing . . . ( note surname spelling )
Edw.MAHER. . born 1830 . . . THURLES . . . is a possability . . . ( note different surname spelling ) . . .
_______________________________________________________________________
So next . . I looked for a MARRIAGE of the possible Parents .. . . i.e. Martin and Bridget . . and found (below)
This date . . 1832 . . . confirms EDWARDS (Moycarky) birth in 1833 . . .
_______________________________________________________________
Local Parish CHURCH records . . . for those times . . . see . . . https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0248
___________________________________________________________________
I looked for . . but failed to find . . . a Marriage of Edw. and Henna Shanahan , , ,
______________________________________________________________________________
So . . next I struck GOLD . . . when I searched for Pennefather . . (see below) 1805 Moycarky . . .
This find . . . would appear to cement . . the Moycarky location of Edward and Catherine . . before EMIGRATION . . .
__________________________________________________________________________________________________
Next I searched for a MARRIAGE for Edmund Pennefather . . . and . . ( Catherine Martin ) . . . with NO success . . BUT . .
when I leave out the ( Catherine Martin ) . . . I get the Marriage in UPPERCHURCH . . ( see below ) with BRIDE . . Anne MAHER . . .
This looks hopeful . . Upperchurch is in that location . . and the Surname Pennefather is very uncommon . . .
_____________________________________________________________________________________
This is a TAX roll from 1823 - 1837 . . . when I check Pennefather in Tipperary . . I find 60 listed . . no way to certainty .
_______________________________________________________________________________
With the above serch site . . I tried Meagher . . . hundreds showed up . . .
As you may be aware . . . in Tipperary . . . Meagher is interchangeable with the spellings of Maher, O'Meachair. Mara etc. .

So. . . all the above . . . will be very confusing . . and hopefully . . . of some help . . .
Best I could do . . .
Cheers . . . Eamonn.
