Hello, I am new to this county.
I am attempting to find John H. Ryan (also sister Catherine) whose parents are Michael and Catherine. He was born Ireland ca 1841 (she ca 1851). They both settled in a town in Rhode Island where there are literally hundreds of Ryans. Those Ryans are all from Tipperary, so I assumed mine would be too. Yet when I do a search in Ireland for a John and Catherine with parents Michael and Catherine, I come up empty. Those are the only two siblings I have found, although I suspect there may be more, given how many Ryans there are in this town. If I could find the family in Ireland, I could trace the siblings back. I would welcome any ideas or suggestions from you experts.
Thank you in advance. Stay safe.

Hello Barbara,
Because the surname Ryan is very common in Ireland, as are the first names Michael, Catherine, and John, you will need to know the maiden name of John and Catherine’s mother Catherine, to see if you can locate their individual baptism records, and perhaps the baptism records for their siblings. There will not be civil birth records for John and Catherine Ryan, as the government in Ireland to did not commence with recording birth records until 1864.
Do you know Catherine’s maiden name? It may be recorded on the Rhode Island death records for John and Catherine, but then again her maiden name may not be recorded on the death records. Have you obtained the death records for John and Catherine to find out if the full name of their mother is recorded?
If Catherine's (the mother) maiden name was also Ryan, that could present another challenge in locating your direct line, especially if there had been another family in the same area where the husband's name is also Michael Ryan and his wife's name is also Catherine Ryan.
On another note, even the name of their town or parish of birth in Ireland where John and Catherine were born may be helpful if it is recorded on their individual Rhode Island death records.
Kind Regards,
Dave Boylan

Thanks for your input Dave. This one is challenging at best. But I have lots of patience and perseverance so I'll keep trying. (What else can I do in a pandemic !!). Thanks again. Stay safe.

You're welcome Barbara.
If you find any additional information please let me know so that I can see if there are any records that pertain to your direct Ryan ancestors in County Tipperary.
Good Luck,
Dave
