Hello,
Attached is Catherine Ryan's birth record, Parents Michael and Catherien Duyer.
Can anyone read the names of the godparents? Handwriting is awful!
Thanks in advance.

Barbara:
Welcome back to Ireland Reaching Out!
Looks like the sponsors have the same surname and it appears to be Rourke. First names James or Joseph and Mary. One caveat. Not sure of the word after Mary Rourke. Almost looks like Cleary. See the record that is two above.

Barbara: firth wife names I believe is Dwyer not Duyer. Rouke looks like the last name of Godparents . If you put the wedding date here someone might be able to find another record for you to show the Marriage names and some records have several people listed.

The word or words after Mary Rourke are the townland where Catherine Ryan's parents lived. I can't read it but if you know the area this is from, you can look up a list of townlands (john green ham or other sites) and likely figure it out. It does start with a C but I don't think it says Cleary. The record two above has Cleary as the last name of the sponsor but then there is a different townland listed.

Hi Barbara ... Catherine's mother is definitly Catherine Dwyer. The godparents are probably James but maybe Joseph and a Mary. I can see Rourke but I can also see Knoble as their possible surnames. Two above isn't a Townland of Cleary. If you have the Parish then a really useful tool to try and decipher horrible writing of place names is The IreAtlas - https://thecore.com/seanruad/

Hi
I read it as
Cath of Michl ( Michael) Ryan and Cath Dwyer
Sponsors Jas (James ) Bourke & Mary Bourke , Cloghleigh .
Cloghleigh is in the parish of Golden & Kilfeacle and the civil parish is Relickmurry & Athassel
A Michael Ryan of Golden & Cathe Dwyer were married in Cashel 15 Feb 1847 witnesses Jas (James) Bourke & Cath Dwyer .
Another child of Michael Ryan & Cath Dwyer born in Cloghleigh is
Ellen 7 Apr 1851 sponsors William Dwyer Catherine Hogan
Cloghleigh seems to have been home to Ryan's for generations and there were several Ryan houses and farms.

I concur with Cordangan Tipperary.
Information and a map for Cloghleigh can be found at https://www.townlands.ie/tipperary/clanwilliam/relickmurry-and-athassel…;
My 2X great grandfather, Daniel Ryan (born sometime around 1795-1800), wife, Mary Lahey, and children lived in the adjoining townland to the north, Sergeant's Lot, prior to emigrating to Canada West about 1850. I wonder if your Michael and my Daniel were related. Have you done a DNA test and, if so, are you in GEDmatch? I have tested with Family Tree DNA and Ancestry and am also in GEDmatch.

Wow !! Thanks to all of you !! I just turned on my computer and this is like Christmas morning!!
This record is a borth of Catherine Ryan, born February 29, 1848 Golden and Filfeacle, Diocese of Cashel and Emily, Tipperary
I don't know if she is "my" Catherine but I would love her to be. My Catherine has parents Michael and Catherine, was born around 1849, and has a brother John born around 1838. As you all probably know, there are a MILLION Ryans in Tipperary, but I can't find a Catherine, with brother John and parents Michael and Catherine. And there are a MILLION Michael and Catherine parents. Until i find the brother John to go along with them, I'm stumped.
Yes, we did do DNA. It's under Dennis ORourke.
If anyone has any advice I would greatly welcome it.
Thanks so much.

My Catherine Ryan was born Tipperary 1821, D: 1882 Limerick. She married Richard Hoare, b. 1822, Mooresfort, Laten, Tipperary. I am related to Ryans from Tipperary also. So many Ryans, I, too, cannot figure out which Ryans. I had my mt-dna tested and the name Cleary is a name married to the women I match to. This Cleary family came from Cahir, Clonmel, Tipperary. Some from Kilnabutler, Cahir. The diocese for my Catherine is Cashel and Emily. The Bourke name comes up a lot in my searches with the Ryan family. The other names related to these families are: Noonan, Maher, Meagher, Bourke and Burke. Good Luck.

Glad to help and so happy that Michael agrees with me.
I too know the heartache of researching Ryan's in Tipperary!
Barbara . Is there any clue anywhere indicating where in Tipperary your ancestor came from? DNA might help narrow it down. Upload your DNA file to every site you can - many offer free uploads.
msdmsullivan - Have you posted on the Lattin message board https://irelandxo.com/ireland/tipperary/lattin-tipperary or Galbally / Aherlow https://irelandxo.com/ireland/tipperary/galbally-aherlow-tipperary.. Mooresfort kinda comes under both parishes. I will try and help you there as I too have several Mooresfort families.

Barbara, what company did you test with? I tried searching Dennis ORourke on the companies that I tested with and couldn't find a matching name.

Hello From Queensland Australia,
Reading with interest. I have been tracing Dwyers who emigrated as a family ( grandmother Judith , her children , and grandson Patrick Dalton 7 years(, to Ipswich Queensland in 1862 on the ship Theresa. They were preceded by others who had left as a widow, Mary and others as convicts etc. Origin for my Dwyers are Knockavilla . Tipperary. Diocese of Chashel and Emly. Can't see a Catherine among them yet so this may not be of any use. Di Fitzgerald ( nee Dalton)
