I am trying to trace the location of Phelan's Lane, Clonmel. John Walsh, my Gr Gr Grandfather had a Braisiers and Tinsmiths business there according to the 1846 Slaters directory. The lane seems to go missing between the 1901 census and the 1911 census. Also my Gr grandfather and Grandfather were tinsmiths but moved to Limerick around 1888. I would also like to find out if the business in Phelan's Lane went down the pan at the troubled time around the mid to late 1840's.

Hello Ray,
I located Phelan’s Lane on an Ordnance Survey Map of Clonmel. The map was produced between 1888 and 1913. Phelan’s Lane is located just north of O’Connell Street and just west of Gladstone Street. Phelan’s Lane is in the approximate center of the map. You’ll have to look closely at the map, as Phelan’s Lane is very narrow, and narrows even further as it heads south into O’Connell Street. Many thanks for that, the map has proved most useful. Checking it agains the curren map it looks as if it was just about where River island, in O'Connell Street, is now located. I did find the 1901 census record but for some reason not the 1911.
