Hi, I am trying to trace my great grandfather James Hynes and his family.
Based on a church copy of his marriage  registration on 15 August 1877 in Brisbane Australia, he was born around 1853. He lists his place of birth as Tipperary, Co. Tipperary.

So my first question is how do I find the right parish/ town land to search?

The only other information I have is that On this document he shows his parents as Michael Hynes , a tailor, and what appears to be Hanna Brien  and on my grandmothers birth certificate he lists his name as James Joseph Hynes.

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Liz

    I searched for the " Marriage " of Michael and Hanna . . . circa 1848  . . +/- 10 yrs. . . . Nothing  . .

This is a bit strange . . that they should have recorded James's Baptism . . . but NOT the marriage  . .

    so . . I searched . . ALL Ireland  . . . still nothing . . .

  • Hi again . . .

    I had a look at an evan older TAX roll . . . a.k.a. . . Tithes Apployment    1823 -1837

    http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/results.jsp?surname=Hynes&firstname=&county=Tipperary&townland=&parish=&search=Search&sort=&pageSize=&pager.offset=20

    and in a triangle . . . close to Bansha . . . I found a

    Denis Hynes . . listed . . . as you will see . . .

    HynesDenisGarrandee     Knockgraffon      Tipperary      1825 . . . .

    This is as close as I could find . . . a Townsland  . . .  not too distant from Bansha . . .

  • Thanks you very much Eamon.

You have helped clarify James mothers's name as well as a parish. ( I have  Ancestry , My Heritage and Roots Ireland (via  my local genealogical society access ) ;and didn't get that far.

I will also follow up on the farming aspect as well as a tailor. James was a tailor in Australia so it is possible the marriage record could have a transcription error

thanks once again for your help

    regards

    Liz

  • Eamonn

Am just hpgetting back to this.

havent had much luck following up on the schooling or farming yet but will give it another try.

However following on from the record of James birth, I found a sister Margaret born 1848. Still no luck on the marriage or birth certificates for the parents but I might look for more  older children to give me a better chance of a marriage year.

thanks again for your assistance and direction.

    Liz
