Finding Co. Donegal RC parish records in the mid-19th century is difficult because most parishes records start around 1850 or later. I searched on the subscription site Roots Ireland and the earliest Hugh Mooney baptismal record was in 1866.See transcription below from the subscription site Roots Ireland. I know you don't have his parents names to confirm if this record.is correct.

Many thanks for the info.
You see the Mooney family who are my relatives, lived in NYC. In trying to track down an in-law, Paul Allen Little, I found he was living in Tennessee and his neighbours were the Mooneys' I mentioned in the post. From research, I do know know that coincidences happen - far too often for my liking! - but I thought it was worth trying.

I was hoping that Hugh would have had a brother, Edward (my Edward) who was born roughly at the same time. Edward's parents - according to documents - were John Mooney and Elizabeth, nee Parkinson.

Unfortunately, on Hugh's death cert his parents were unknown.
