I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland. Derrymore townland is in Corbally civil parish and the RC parish would be Cournaganeen. There were three Thomas Russell baptismal records in the parish records in 1837 1840 1845. The first record below showed Derrymore townland. The second record did not show a townland and the third record showed Clonokenny. So I think your assumption is correct that the father of your Thomas was James.

Thank you for the reply Roger! I found a New York state death certificate for Thomas that has a birthdate of 3-29-1847 and found another online date of 4-14-1840. Did you happen to see anything around these dates?

On the valuation record I found from 1847 or 1848, I see a Coony that possibly has shared property with James Russell which leads me to believe this is the correct James Russell.

I wonder if there was possibly a death and then a 2nd Thomas Russell that was born to them.
