A few months ago I posted on this site asking for help with information on my Woodhams family after years of never getting anywhere, I had help from a lovely volunteer and have now found so much information (thank you again) now I'm back as I've hit another brick wall. My G G grandmother Annie Woodhams was born in 1891 in Clonmel to William Woodhams and Mary Murphy who married in 1890 at St Peter and Paul's, Clonmel. He was a soldier and lived at the military barracks at the time. For months I believed that Annie's mother was a Eliza (Barry) Woodhams due to census records stating she was Williams wife, until I came across Annie's birth certificate with Mary as birth mother and several prison records for both Eliza and Annie where either one were witness it always stated stepmother/stepdaughter. Here is where I'm stuck, what happened to Mary?! I know that William and Eliza were married by the time Annie was 4 but cannot find any marriage records for them, no birth or death records for Mary only her marriage to William which shows that her father was called Richard Murphy. She must of been born around the 1870 mark. I'm not sure how things worked in those days but I'm under the impression that people didn't really divorce so I can only think that she must of died not long after giving birth to Annie - or during. If anyone can find anything that I'm struggling with I would be so grateful thank you for taking the time to read, Carolanne x

Welcome once more to IrelandXO.  I'm a volunteer here in Roscrea, but originally from Templemore (12 mles away).  While researching my own family tree, I came across this from the 1901 Census for Templemore.  It has the details you have put up here William 30, Elizabeth 31 and Annie 9 - from Clonmel.  I hope this is of some use to you.  It suggests that William, now a Labourer, has left the army.  If you want, I'll investigate this a bit more for you.  Also included here are burial records for Woodhams in Templemore which may add to your collection

  •  Hi Carolanne, my name is Rita  .

My maternal great grandmother was Eliza Woodhams . I knew Nan (Annie) Woodhams who would have been your great great grandmother.  She was a small thin lady and would come and visit my grandmother, who was the biological daughter of Eliza Woodhams. I also remember some girls in the orphanage in Templemore , especially one, Nancy Woodhams .I distinctly remember she had a cheerful disposition and a lovely smile .  Nan (Annie) was very young when Eliza and my grandmother became part of her life that is based on the records I have seen.

I am wondering where you came across the maiden name of Barry for Eliza Woodhams? I was so happy to finally get that surname , so thank you . Please feel free to reach out to me . I also live in the the US .CA.  I do not know what happened to Mary Murphy .
