Hello.
I am trying to help a man with researching his family from Longford County.  I strongly believe I have found them in the Granard Catholic Parish records at NLI, and the family was from Killeen Townland.

I found a burial record for a Daniel Kerrigan (aka Kierican) dated 12 Jun 1847, but I haven't found a record for his wife, Ellen/Eleanor Smyth who was born about 1798.  I searched the database for the Granard Graveyard on Irish Graveyards website, with no luck.

Daniel and Ellen married 13 Feb 1820, and had the following children in Killeen, unless noted:

Margaret, baptised 8 May 1822 (living in Leitrim)

James, baptised 29 Jul 1824

Catherine, bap. 14 Nov 1828

Maria, Bap 26 Aug 1831

Nicholas, bap 25 Apr 1834

Ellen, bap 12 Feb 1837

Daniel, bap 16 Oct 1841

We know that four of the children went to New Orleans in the 1850's and 1860's:  Catherine (married there in 1853 to Edward Tuite); Maria (married there 1854 to Patick McCarty); Ellen (married there 1863 to John Cleary); and Daniel (married there in 1869 to Elizabeth Hogan.)

Until I found them in the NLI registers, as well as the 1834 Catholic Parish Census of Granard Parish, we were unaware of three of the children: Margaret, James, and Nicholas.

I suspect that after their father died in 1847, the family had to emmigrate, but I was hoping to find something more on their mother, Eleanor Smyth.  I was able to find her baptism in 1798, and have found her parents and siblings (all from Killeen):

Patrick Smyth married Catherine Brady 13 Nov 1789, and had the following children in Killeen:

Andrew, baptised 18 May 1791

Patrick, bap 17 Apr 1796
Ellen, bap 27 Jul 1798

Daniel, bap 18 Nov 1801

I have not yet researched the Smyth family yet, but will very soon.  I am also trying to find Daniel Kerrigan's parents/siblings, and have not yet found his birth year/location.  There is one connection to other Kerrigans, and that is for:
Nicholas' baptism in 1834 shows Godfather is Nicholas Kierican
Eleanor's baptism in 1837 shows Godfather is James Kierican

Thank you for any help!

Mary Van Dyke
