Hello
I am having difficulty finding out much about when my great grand Grandfather Edward Elsmere Noble went to NZ and why his mother and father remained behind. I have found records of his grandmother Patience Swanton marring his grandfahter when he was 68. Edward was born in 1847 and immigrated to NZ. I have a tree on Ancestry and have found DNA connections in NZ to the Noble family but not having much luck finding any Noble's in Cork. Although I have found a distant Beamish distant cousin in Cork and a Swanton in America
I was always told my great great grandfather came from a large estate in Cork which was thought to be called "Elsmere" His mother Harriet Anne Beamish did die in Elsmere (this has been spelt a few different ways) cottage in College Street Cork, but I don't think this is the original estate. Edward was born at Ballidehob House, Ballydehob. This village comes up quite a bit in the Swanton court cases.
If this rings bells for anyone I'd be grateful for any information.
Many thanks, Amanda

Hi Amanda,
Please see Landedestates.nuigalway for details of the various Beamish Estates. It includes photos of houses and a lead to the Nationa Archives of Ireland in relation to same.

Hi Amanda,
Please see attached in related to the name "Noble" in County Cork. It appears that John was a son of Patience and resided in Skibbereen.
The name "Noble" is recorded in Landedestates under Families

Hi Amanda
Further to previous posts, there is a record of an "Edward E. Noble" in Queenstown (Now Cobh) on July 27th 1865. Could this man be your relative?

Dearest McCoy, thank you SO very much for that information. I still can't find an image of Ballydehob, there's an empty lot there which I think was once the house. But yes, great to confirm that John was no doubt Edward's father adn he carried the same name has his grandafther that was married to Patience Swanton.
I was able to see the fabulous link regarding the "Sale of Estate" 1861, that's the first clipping I've seen with John Noble actually mentioned alongside Swanton, that's much appreciated.
E E Noble was born 1847 or 1848 and didn't come out to NZ until he was 22 (can't find proof of that yet), so that could well be him in Cobh, where did you find that link if you don't mind me asking?
I've found a link of his grandfather being arrested for fair evasion. See kids, with social media these things come back to haunt your family even if it was 2 hundred years later...ha ha.
Would love to know where you saw that about him being in Cobh.
Many thanks to you kind man.
Amanda
