I am searching for my GGG Grandfather, Timothy Gleeson. A man with this name died at the Infirmary at the Nenagh Workhouse in 1884, aged 86 years implying a birth year of 1797 or 1798. These timelines are consistent with information relating to my GGG Grandfather; my GG grandfather William Gleeson (son of Timothy Gleeson) was believed to have been born about 1822. William Gleeson was transported to Tasmania/Australia in 1842 and I am trying to locate his birth place.
The death Record indicated that Timothy Gleeson was formerly of Killadangan, parish of Killodiernan. Would anyone be aware of this person or where more information may be obtained. Timothy's wife was Sarah Mallally/Mullally.
Thanks and regards, Edenhope

Edenhope:
Welcome back to Ireland Reaching Out!
The 1850 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Killodiernan civil parish https://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/tipperary/killodiernan.htm shows a number of Gleeson records including a Thaddeus which is a variant of Timothy. Thaddeus was living in Puckaun townland. I also checked the Tithe listings for the parish and although there were four Gleeson records none were Thaddeus or Timothy.
RC records for Monsea/Killodiernan parish start in 1834. I did search the subscription site Roots Ireland but did not find any Gleeson baptismal records where the father was Thaddeus or Timothy and the mother was Sarah Mullaly.

Hi Edenhope,
You say........
It is disappointing that the RC baptism records for the Parish do not go back further than 1834.
Most Churches were allowed to be built or re-built around 1830 onwards. That's why we only have records from that era, unless you were in the cities.Killadangan, parish of Killodiernan…………………same areas are Monsea, Annagh, Annaghbeg and Ballydrennin.
My Gran was from here and depending on what records you view the Parish, townland and area, they are listed under different names.
There are lots of families of Gleeson’s in that area and it borders with Finnoe.
Going by the Tithe records the area is Finnoe, and there is a Tim Gleeson in Finnoe.
This is a search by Gleeson and Tim* and Tipperary (most of the areas below Finnoe are not near to where yours are from, check these place names on a map)
http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/results.jsp?surname=gleeson&firstname=tim*&county=Tipperary&townland=&parish=&search=Search&sort=&pageSize=&pager.offset=0I did look in the registers online site for Killodiern and could only see a Timothy Gleeson and Judith from Kildangan having children Baptised from 1832 to 1840ish
Was the name Sarah Mullaly on an original document?
Do you know if he has any sibling names? The place you mentioned Kiliniska ……………..I did see this name………….. in Poland.
Klininick another close name is in County Wexford.
BUT………..
Could this place be Killoskehan it's between Templemore and Borrisoleigh.
Near to Nenagh and as it was in the local newspaper the Guardian (my favourite paper) it must have been close by.
When we drive around the area I take note of the townland names from the SatNav, as I could never find them!In Griffiths Valuation Thaddeus is listed, if you look at the top one, Cornelius Gleeson, you will see he rented land owned by Mary Toler Minnett, they lived on a large estate near to where my Gran lived.

Hello Margot, Thanks very much for the information and for taking the trouble to respond to my post. Once again I have some good items to follow up.
The parents of William Gleeson were only recorded once in Australia; on his death certificate. This shows his parents as Timothy Gleeson and Sarah Mullally (could be Mallally). The informant for the information was his 2nd child, son William Gleeson (Junior), so there is a reasonable expectation that it is correct although people who were transported often gave misleading information.
No information is known whether either William Gleeson or his father Timothy had any siblings. I have done some searching through the baptism registers for Diocese of Toomevara in the early 1830's but nothing came up.
Re Kiliniska, a researcher from the Library in Thurles has mentioned that this may have been a prior name for the current townland of Killeisk, parish of Ballymackey; but nothing definite.
Best regards, Edenhope
