Hi I am researching my Great Grandfather George Lough born around 1838 Clones Monaghan . I believe his father was William Lough born maybe 1808 Creivaghy Clones  and mother Susan Coulter . William's parents may be Thomas Lough and Jane Blakeley. I am not 100% sure if this connection as I have found several Loughs in the Clones  area and may be getting confused. George later moved to Cavan and then Glasgow with family.
I am wondering if anyone has family tree or information of the family Lough. George had a brother James who also went to Glasgow.

Many thanks

Alison

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

The subscription site Roots Ireland has Clones Church of Ireland records back to the 1700s. I found the William Lough record in 1809 and the George Lough in 1838. George had a brother William 1835 and sisters Bessy 1839 and Margaret 1844.

    William had the following siblings:Anne Jane 1814 James 1816 Jane 1819 Margaret 1825 Thomas1830

The townland is Creevaghy in Clones ciivl parish.

  • AlisonThank you very much. Some of my information has been confirmed. I had always wondered if George had more siblings as only two children for this family seemed too few for the time.

I am off to research more!

Would you have any thoughts with regard to the wives - Jane Blakely and Susanna Coulter as I have found little about them.  Should I expect them to be from the same area? Was it common for people to live and marry within their community?
Again many thanks , what a great thing Ireland Reachig out is.

I could not locate a Jane Blakeley born around 1789 or so and also did not find a Susanna Coulter around 1815. ( I was going back twenty years from the birth of their oldest child.)

I can only speculate about how well to do your ancestors were. In general, I think with families of means the couple could have lived further apart.
