Mr. Addy

Hello there, I searched Roots Ireland to no efffect in County Louth which is odd as this site about Louth has a lot of Addy hits, the one I focused on was the marreid womens cross index which refers to a Addy see Norris (more modern spelling) in Kildemock graveyard from the Journal of the County Louth History Society, however when I look over the journal online for 1953 I cannot see the reference mentioned, I will follow up with a friend who has the journal I think and will email the Secretary to see if he can shed some light on it, the site I mentioned is here and search Addy, http://jbhall.clahs.ie/index.html I am thinking the Addy person may be buried in a Norris plot.

I see two children baptised in the Church of Ireland in Drogheda in 1734 and 1741 a William Addy born to a Patrick Addy, and in 1741 an Elizabeth but the fathers name is given as Ann Addy, no other info and about 15 miles from Kildemock (there is a story about the Jumping Church of Kildemock if you wish to search)

I also see a reference to an Addy person on the Corporation of Drogehda so some community standing, you could also email the local history section of Louth Library. https://www.louthcoco.ie/en/services/library/genealogy-research-sources/ I understand that the local history section may not be open during COvind restrictions but it is possible they will take email queries.

Thank you for giving me more info on the ellusive Mr. Addy.  He is becomming even more of a mystery.  And with the names of John and William repeating themselves since the 1700's, difficult to pin down the correct one.  It does seem strange that the family trees I got some information from would have an approximate year of birth but no first name.  It does seem like there are a lot of Addys in the area, so it seems there must be a connection.  I will keep digging.

Hi, think I have found the names, see attached snip from the referenced document, the Secretrary of the History Society sent me the article and I snipped out the section, also noted not attached a Norris entry saying they were from Oberstown, this is near Lusk in County Dublin, checked the Irish Genealogy site on Dublin church records and while there both Norris and Addy BMDs from 1700 to 1800 I see no Addy / Norris marriage. By the way the death ages given show her to be much older than him. 

There are some other Addy mentions in the article which is substantilal enough. If you are looking for the area I find this map of civil parishes and townlands helps locate them, there is also another one called Logainm. https://www.townlandsThe area is between Ardee and Dunleer.

Hi just realised in my previous reply and attachment that I said Oberstown is in Lusk, County Dublin, it is but it is also I discovered an adjacent townland to the graveyard area attached above. So far more likely that is where your Norris is from.

Again, thanks.  That one little article told me a lot (and gave me more questions).  I now know that Juudith and Mr. Addy had at least one other son, Edward.  I already knew about John.  I also now know there was a nephew.  It sounds like Edward was honoring his brother, mother, and nephew by erecting (?) something - was this a headstone?  But, once again, no mention of a husband/father.  Sounds like some deep dark secret.  I'll keep digging.
