I would love to connect with any Treacy descendants of Coolavehy. My great-great-grandmother, Ellen Treacy, married Thomas Gallagher of Houndscourt, Kilflyn, Limerick. Ellen was born c1795 in Coolavehy. We are not sure of her father's first name, but her mother was a Noonan. I am hoping someone from this extended family might still live in Ireland and have family information to share. Ellen's sister Johanna Treacy married Thomas's brother, Maurice Gallagher of Kilcruaig, Kilflyn, Limerick.

Hi Seashore:
Thank you for your post. I would recommend that you create an Ancestor profile for one of your Treacy ancestors and post this on the XOChronicles feature on the website. Many of our members read these profiles are they are updated weekly by parish and county. The link to create a profile is here: https://irelandxo.com/ireland-xo/history-and-genealogy
I will also refer this query to a volunteer in Limerick not far from this area who may have further information.
Many thanks for your interest in Ireland Reaching Out.
All the best,
Jane

Hi 'Seashore'
I am a Volunteer with IrelandXO from the area. I think we have met a number of times.. If not it is quite a coincidence. As far as I know the earliest source for the area is the Castle Oliver rent roll which dates from the 1820's. (National Library of Ireland: Ref: MS9431) . There were three adjacent Treacy farms in Coolavehy suggesting that the property might have been divided between three sons. In 1827 the names on the three holdings were John, Michael and 'Else'.
I know that one of the families that my grandmother's sister married into sold out in the 1940's. Kevin, the owner went to live in the UK. Some of the female members married locally but are all deceased now as far as I am aware. I am not sure if either of the other families remained in Coolavehy but I could make some enquiries for you.Best wishes
