I recently found information that suggests my great grandmother may have been the daughter of Maurice Connors and Johanna Malone, born August 1871 Fermoy.  I originally thought Hannorah (Hannah) was the daughter of Maurice Connors and Johanna O'Brien  Do you have any further information?  Debbie

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I have searched the subscription site Roots Ireland and the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie (for civil birth records) and could not find any records around 1871 for a Hannorah Connors with either set of parents that you list in your message.

What info do you have which shows August 1871 with parents Maurice Connors and Johanna Malone.

  • she (or somebody in her households gave a birth date of August 1871 to the census taker in 1900.  A distant relative had researched through Hibernian and that also listed August 1871 but listed her mother as Johanna O'Brien so she may have been a half sibling to the other children of Maurice Connors I have found  Debbie

I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland and found three possible baptismal records for siblings to Hannorah. Parents were shown as Maurice Connor and Johanna or Joan Malone. All three baptisms were in the Conna RC parish. Conna RC parish is southeast of Fermoy RC parish. The three children were: Bridget baptized June 11 1857 Michael baptized May 18 1859 and John baptized May 24 1864.

Civil registration of births started in 1864 so I was able to find the civil record for John (see third record)  https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1864/03613/2333353.pdf

The family was living in Ballycullane townland in Mogeely civil parish.

I went thru 98 Connor/Connors birth records in the Fermoy registration district from 1864-1873 focusing on names close to Hannorah including Johanna.

I did find a brother Maurice in 1867 (third record)  https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1867/03472/2275456.pdf

Finally found Johanna which I think is very likely Hannorah. Born May 25 1870 (see last record)    https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1870/03344/2225847.pdf

  • Hi Debora,

I have been asked by Jane Halloran Ryan of Ireland XO to review your querie re, Hannorah Connors.

Having examined all Connors families in County Cork from 1860-1880 and with particular interest focused in the 1870-1872 records, I can only concur in full with Roger's findings that the Johanna born in 1870 To Maurice Connors & Johanna Malone is the one you are looking for and the record of her birth and that of her brother are the correct ones that Roger has already sent you.

The name "Hannoragh" is and has been spelled and mis-spelled in many ways in many records Civil and Religious and some of them are, Hanonragh, Hanora, Hannah, Hanna, Norah, Nora, Johannah, Johanna, Joanna and a few others.

I will continue to look at records to see if I can find further information on the family and will get back to you if I do,

  • Hello. I am wondering if it is possible to go back any further or if this is probably as far back as is possible given that many of Ireland's records don't go back that far?  Debbie

  • Debbie:

I checked and there were no baptismal records in Conna parish for a Maurice Connor or Johanna Malone. Conna records go back to 1832. Their records may be available in a different parish but without having their parents names, it would be difficult to confirm any records.
