My 3 x Grand parents where Daniel Connell and Margaret Curtin/Curtain.
I now believed they were married 26th Feb 1827
They had 7 Children First child Mary born in 1836, such a big gap from Marriage to First children. Which got me searching more I am only on the free sites at the moment but on a 14day trail with FMP, I may have found a child born 1830 Called Patrick but as they had a Child later on called Patrick 1843 I think Patrick 1830 must have died young.
What I am looking for now is more the Parents of Daniel Connell and Margaret Curtin.
I have a few possibles Margaret Curtin Born 13 Nov 1804 Parents James Curtin and Margaret Scanion
Daniel 1809 St Mary's Parish Limerick. Parents Daniel Connell and Margaret Donovan and these are the closest I have come in the time frame, but would have thought Daniels mum would have been a Mary?
There was a James, Patrick , Daniel , girls where Mary and Margaret
Daniels last child was Called Edmond 1850 so if they are following the Irish naming pattern I would have thought one of the fathers was called Edmond.
In the Griffins Valuations Daniel Connell was renting a house from a Thomas Ryan in 1850
I would like to try and connect the right parents to Daniel Connell and Margaret.
Looking through the sponsors of each baptism there are a few Connells and I am wondering if they are the siblings of Daniel Connell, but I and struggling to find this information as I dig further back.
Mary Baptised 1836 sponsors are Wm Connell may be William? and Ca Connell may be Catherine?
James Baptised 1838 sponsors are WM English and Judith Connell
and Margarets 1848 sponsors are Tom Dundon and Hon Connell, not sure what that is short for?
I would appreciate any help ,do you think the Connells that were sponsors could be the Siblings of Daniel or Aunts and Uncles? if so what could be the names of Daniels parents just incase I have linked the wrong family to him. I am also wondering how Daniels and Margaret came together when they were not from the same area, I understand back in the day familys stayed in the same area.
I am really hoping some one can get me passed this brick wall.
Thank you in advice and keeping every thing crossed.
Thank you Debbie

Hi Debbie
I am a volunteer with IrelandXO. We do not have much by way of sources for the early 19th century but here are my observations.
I can’t find the 1827 Marriage between Daniel Connell & Margaret Curtin. Was it in Pallasgreen parish? I am unable to find it in RootsIreland.ie. If it is correct I doubt that the first child would have been born nine years later. If it is the correct marriage, it is much more probable that there would have been other children born, perhaps in a neighbouring parish where records are not quite so good. I can’t find any other children in Limerick or South Tipperary.
I have found the Griffith’s Valuation reference you mention in Brackloon, Tuoghcluggin in the barony of Coonagh. I also see in the Griffith’s Tenure Book that Daniel held the house “at will” which means that he had no lease and a single word comment “herding”, presumably a reference to his work. This area seems to be sort of towards Oola parish which is partly in County Tipperary. I also notice that there is a Mary Curtin who resided in the nearby townland of Calstlecluggin. Neither house had land suggesting that the residents were labourers so they would have been from a similar peer group. Then as now, people usually married partners from the same class. They might also have been more prone to moving around in search of work.
In the 1901 Census of Ireland there was a James Connell, Age 67, a single illiterate labourer living in the household of Maurice Power of Brackloon. His age is the right ball park for James born 1838.
It is probably going to be impossible to definitely identify the parents of people born before Catholic Emancipation (1829) because many places did not have records. You will notice that most places have records dating from about 1830 when the Catholic churches in these parishes were built. Pallasgreen starts earlier (1811) presumably because the local grandees were more tolerant. Records also suffer on account of the fact that baptisms took place in the home prior to Catholic Emancipation and priests frequently got the details wrong or completely forgot when it came to recording them. The quality improves from 1851 due to the Synod of Thurles when the bishops directed that all sacramental rites should take place in church so records were contemparenous.
Unfortunately the census of 1821 was destroyed in the Four Courts fire of 1922, a tragedy for genealogists. Personally I am a fan of DNA which has given me the confirmation I needed to add another generation to one branch of my family tree. I would also get the subsequent history of the Connell and Curtin houses after Griffith's Valuation which can usually be found in the Valuation Office in Abbey Street, Dublin.
Hon is short for Honora or Hanora, commonly shortened to Nora.
Sorry I can't be more helpful but there is so little to go on. If anybody knows of more sources for Pallasgreen or Oola please let me know. Some links you might find useful:

Hello Tim,
Thank you for your reply.
I am taking up the search that my cousins brother inaw did.Yes i have a screen shot of Daniels and Margaret marriage her name in Transcript is written Anton, with chat with lots of people they all say priest may have miss heard how it sounded to the way it was written, so Curtin/Anton often people back in the day couldn't read or write.
I have all records of Baptism and parents Daniel Connell & Margaret Curtin are the parents so happy with that. All in Pallasgreen. There're on Curtin sponsors for the children. Which is kind of strange.
I found a Patrick born 1830 to Daniel and Margaret Connell but the child died young, hence another Patrick further down the line. Its possible there was miscarriage too. There is A Daniel Connell and Ellena Ryan that had a daughter late 1830 this was registered as illegit its possible that its my Daniel.
Daniel and Margaret also lost a girl called Margaret again this name was used with the next daughter born. I guess I am going to have to look in to the deaths of these children, it may give more information but i am only on free sites so can't always find this information. I Find it Strange with Curtin being a popular name in Ireland that I can find little information on Margaret. I may be searching in wrong parish. How would I go about attaching information for you to look at like the marriage details of Daniel & Margaret and baptim records. There are plenty of Connell's as sponsors that I am researching hoping they are more likely to be siblings of Daniel, this then would confirm parents.
I will look at the other areas that you suggested and fingers crossed may uncover new links. If Patrick was the First born and they followed the Irish among pattern I would imagen Daniels father would be a Patrick? Also last child born was son Edmond so there sound be a link to a Grandfather or uncle named Edmond? Thank you. Hoping with the belp of this group I may be able to dig further. Or family are O'Connors on my mothers side and O'Connells on my fathers side. Back in the day it became more Connell as the O was dropped. My Grandmother got me started on my family tree as connected to the Great Liberator of Ireland. Wish I wrote every thing down growing up of how she was connected. Who knows one day I hope to unravel the mystery.
Many thanks
Many thanks

Hi Debbie, I hope you're well, I'm just starting out on the journey of trying to work out the Irish side of my family tree, and have found links to O'Connells in Pallasgreen. I just wondered, with it being a relatively small place, whether there might be any links to the o'connells you have been tracing? All I know so far is that they may have had a dairy farm in the mid 1900's and that there were five children born between about 1950 and 1960? If there are any pointers you could give to start me in the right direction that would be great. Thanks very much, Matt

Hi all,
I will be traveling to Ireland arriving on Aug 6 and am looking to meet with a volunteer in or around Pallasgreen sometime around that time as my grandmother was born there. I have filled out a few online requests but have not heard back.
If no one is available, are there any suggestions as to places to see in town?
Many thanks,
Chris, NJ USA
