My 2 x great grandfather, John Greene was born in Stokestown Roscommon in 1816 and his sister Ann was born in 1818. They were both arrested for stealing wool and transported to Australia for 7 years. They didn't muck about; John was convicted in Roscommon assizes on 23 June 1836 and departed for Australia on the "Captain Cook" on the 5 July 1836. Ann had to wait for a ship for women so she was convicted on the same day but didn't depart on the "Margaret" until 24 January 1837.

I have a date of birth for John, 14 March 1816 Stokestown Roscommon but I have no idea if this is correct, no date for Anne. I have their parents as Michael and Mary Greene but again have no idea if this is correct and have no clue how to find out who their parents really were and if they had more siblings. There doesn't seem to be parish records online this early but perhaps I am looking in the wrong places.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me and places to look? What would life have been like for a kitchen maid and a ploman (plowman?)/ farm labourer? What was Stoketown like in the early 1800s?
