Hello everyone.
I am searching and searching for some information on my 2xgreat grandmother Margaret Galvin.
She came to Victoria Australia on the Pemberton in 1849 , from a workhouse. But which workhouse? I have no idea.
Does anyone have any information on the Galvins from Tipperary? I don't even know parents names
thanks Kaye

Hello Kaye
I have looked at the passenger list of Pemberton 1849 where Margaret Galvin is listed aged 17 from Tipperary. My own thinking is that she was from the Tipperary town Workhouse. As there is a town called Tipperary as well as the County Tipperary. I have found the baptism in Tipperary for the year 1832 for Margaret Galvan, parents Jacobus (James) and Ellen Condon, Baptised in Cahir on 12/6/1832. She had siblings, all younger, Ellen, Catherine, Jacobus and David. Did she use any of these names for her own children? Which would be a clue that it is the correct Margaret. There is an excellent genealogy research centre in Thurles call Tipperary Studies Library. website is tipperarystudies.ie Perhaps you might write to them and ask was Caher in the Tipperary workhouse division. my email is kilcolmanoffaly@irelandxo.ie if you have any further questions.
All the best
Margaret
