My GGGrandparents Patrick and Bridget (nee Consindine) Kinnane emmigrated from Clare via Lancashire to South Australia in 1857. Patrick was born about 1797 and Bridget about 1804. Family letters indicate neighbours were Tom Dunleavy and Peg Leahy.
I believe that they probably lived in the area near Lislarkin South, County Clare and am wondering if there are any information about them or which Townland they lived in.
Many Thanks
Francesca Kinnane

Dear Francesca:
The townland of Lislorkan South (and North) are both located in the civil parish of Kilmacrehy. I see that a Daniel Considine was an occupier in Lislorkan South. The surnames of Dunleavy and Leahy (which are great clues to have as neighbour's names!)
The Clare Library has a number of good sources of reference and you might be interested in viewing the links associated with the civil parish of Kilmacrehy here:
http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/places/kilmacreehy.htm
There was a Thomas Dunleavy listed as an occupier in Caherbarnagh townland in Kilmacreehy parish in 1855.
There was a John Leahy listed as an occupierin Ballyvrislaun townland in Kilmacreehy parish in 1855. Women's names were not noted on Griffith's Valuation unless they were property owners (most likely gentry) or were widowed.
You will see in the link above that you can search through the parish registers and it may be worth looking not only for Kinnane and Considine names, but also Thomas Dunleavy and Peg Leahy as possible baptism sponsors, or witnesses to marriages.
If you have any further questions, please let me know.
All the best,
Jane

Hi Francesca,
I'm wondering how I can contact you privately. DNA indicates that my great grandmother Mattie Fertsch (born Nov 1866) may have been fathered by John Kinnane when they all lived in Blumberg (now Birdwood) in South Australia. Mattie's parents are officially Conrad Fertsch and Mary Harkison. I have therefore spent a bit of time looking at the Kinnanes. I now have an explanation as to why I have such a relatively high percetage of Irish DNA and a location on Ancestry that is specifically to West Clare! The only Irish connections I knew of, from some 30 years of dabbling in family history, were from the north and they settled across the water in Stranrear, Wigtownshire Scotland. Of course I cant be totally sure about this, but this is my working theory, given that so many of my unknown dna connections link back to Kinnane and Considine family connections. There are links with all the tested descendants of Mattie and her husband Thomas Berry Gall who married in Adelaide in 1892. One of the puzzles I would like to discuss is that there are two John's who came to SA on the Burlington. I wont continue here because this is already too long. Hoping this website admin can advise on how we exchange emails, if you are happy to do so? Cheers, Rosie (in Brisbane)

Hi Francesca, I’m also a descendant of Patrick and Bridget Kinnane’s son Patrick who came out to Geelong in 1853. Did you have any luck finding information on where they were from? How fascinating that you have family letters!
