I am looking for any information involving Bridget and Bernard McKenna. I have some information about Bridget Durnin McKenna from my Nana (her daughter, Alice McKenna Barron), but am having a hard time finding out about her father, Bernard. I know that Bridget and Bernard were married in Ardee in 1925.
Any information would be appreciated!!
Thank you,
Deirdre

Deirdre, see your issue, I looked at the marriage record which is free online, I attach it anyway, he is listed as a merchant and his father is Patrick, however there is no obvious birht nearby in Ardee, it would be normal to get married in the wifes parish so we can take it she is probably from there and it is a name found in the area. (As an aside on another query a man in New York, Sennca Falls graveyard, St Colmbkille Grave yard has a lot of Durnin and others from the Adree area)
I searched for a birth of Bernard, have you any idea of his age, even his age at death, there are no Bernards born or baptised in Louth that I can see from 1870 to 1910, there is one in Armagh not too far away and one in Monaghan, both in the 1880s so he would be older, his father is listed as a mason which I assume is stone mason on the marriage certificate.
I did see a biirth in Liverpool in 1881 again he is old but the mother is listed as surname Halfpenny, father Patrick, the reason it jumps out is the Halfpenny name is found around Ardee / Dundalk area,
If we had his age we could make an educated guess, there is a Louth Genealogy Facebook page and a query there might assist as his occupation is helpful, not too many with merchant on their occupation. https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/
Good Luck

Pat,
Thank you for your help!
I think both Bernard and Bridget were older than expected when they married. My Nana has mentioned Drogheda specifically, as a possible place where Bernard (her father), was from. I did find the record from St. Peter's in Drogheda of a Bernard McKenna, baptised in Feb of 1876, to Patrick McKenna and Maggie (Campbell).
I am unsure of how to determine if this is the correct Bernard.
Thank you again!

Deirdre, there are siblings to the said Bernard, Patrick 1873; Mary Anne 1879 and Margaret 1881, there may be more as I only searched 1876 plus or minus 5 years, are you aware of any siblings, also I see in the notes section "Paul Ginnitty" no idea if it is the priest or what. Also the father is listed as a Labourer would be nice if it said Mason, this is around the time they were building the new St Peters Church.
See Bernard was born on Chord Road while father was living at a different address, looks like Sandyford Alley, she may have went to her mother or sister for the birth. I see actually Sandyford Alley is now Sandyford Terrace and is a side stret off Chord Road.
While no assistance there is a You Tube video called "Ghosts of Drogheda" about 9 minutes long and worth a look.
I attach the McKenna Campbell marriage in case any of the names mean anything, also there are two similiar Faceebook pages called Drogheda Down Memory Lane - Lost Family and Drogheda Down Memory Lane and there is also a Louth Genealogy page

Deirdre should say the other Bernards I checked had father John. The one in Castleblaney, Monaghan near enough to Ardee, has no father listed just mother Bridget McKenna,
There are about 10 Bernards born to father Patrick in Ireland from 1870 to 1890 but the others are some distance away.
The occupation Merchant is interesting and I wonder if there are any trade directories for the period, mind you the marriage i 1925 is only 2 years after the civil war.

Thank you again for the information! I did join the Louth Genealogy page, and watched the "Ghosts of Drogheda" video on YouTube.
My Nana mentioned someone in her family owning a hardware store, or two. But so far that is the only possible information I have learned.
I will look into searching for a trade directory from that time.
Thank you so much for all of your help!!
