Trying to find information on my Flack family.
My 2 x great grandmother Isabella Flack was possibly born in Monghan 1831.
Her marriage certificate said Dublin anthought her shipping record said Monaghan.
Parents were Robert Flack (a soldier) and Ann Ballock or possibly Bullock.
I found a marriage on 27th April 1826 at the Ballybay Church of Ireland for a Robert FLAX a Soldier of 64th regiment to
Ann Bullock. Witness was Alexander FLACK So possibly Roberts name is miss spelled .
I have only found an Alexander Flack in the Griffith valuations for Ballybay. No other Flacks.
I cannot find any birth records for ballybay for that time period. 1831

Flack & Flax look to me to be variations in spelling the same name.
Tradition was to marry in the bride’s church, after which she'd normally attend her husband’s. So if you have found the right marriage, then that tells you the Bullock family was Church of Ireland. However I think the Flack family were more likely Presbyterian. There are 31 Flacks in Monaghan in the 1901 census and they are all Presbyterian. In which case Isabella may have been baptised in that denomination. There are 3 Presbyterian churches around Ballybay. Ballybay 1st has baptism records from 1834, Ballybay 2nd from 1833 and Derryvalley from 1816. Obviously if Isabella was baptised in 1831 you have to hope the family attended Derryvalley, otherwise there’s likely to be no record to find, though you might find siblings born after 1833/4.
I don’t think any of those Presbyterian records is on line but there are copies of all 3 sets in PRONI (the public record office) in Belfast. Personal visit required to view them. If you are unable to go yourself, you could employ a researcher. Researchers in the PRONI area: http://sgni.net
