Hello. My great grandmother, Mary Josephine Farrelly (b 1866) came over from town of Virginia, County Cavan to Delaware County, Pennsylvania in 1883. She was the daughter of Peter Farrelly (born 1840, died in Cavan in 1892) and Catharine Clarke (born 1846, died in Chester, Pennsylvania in 1919) and married Thomas Bartholomew Corcoran in 1888.
Mary’s siblings also came over - Owen came in 1887. Annie and Patrick came in 1890. Her mother, Catharine, and her younger siblings Delia, Susan, Peter and Maggie came in 1892, several months after her father Peter Farrelly died.
I would love to know who Peter Farrelly’s siblings and parents are. I would also like to know who his wife Catharine Clarke - my 2nd great grandmother’s parents and siblings are. I don’t know if she is from Cavan or not, but I assume she is.

Hello Cathie, I see a marriage in Mullagh parish for a Catherine Clarke and a Peter Farrelly in 1860, this would mean that Catherine was only 14 when getting married which is unlikely, did she give an incorrect age for her 2nd marriage I wonder. This gives rise to a 2nd problem as baptismsi in Mullagh are only available from 1842, fairly late, there are a lot of Catheine Clarks born in Cavan but assuming she married in her own parish she was from Mullagh.
The other problem is Peter, there is no baptism of a Peter in 1840 but there are 16 between 1835 and 1845, there is a Peter Farrelly registered as dead in 1891 in Ballyjamesduff, Mary Beggy (known surname in area) is the infomant, age 55 and appears the most likely certificate, he is a farmer.there is a townland given as his address think it is Cormaddyduff west of Virginia and south of Ballyjamesduff.
You can view the cert here https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/ click on civil records and the area is Oldcastle for the registry. You can see the townlands here https://www.townlands.ie/cavan/castlerahan/castlerahan/castlerahan/corm… and parish registers here https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0850
It looks to me that the Peter who died was born in the same place in 1836, father Patrick and mother Anne Brady, Farrelly is transcribed as Farely or similiar, be warned that Brady in Cavan is like tea in China.
Please revert is any queries,
Good Luck

Hi Cathie! I stumbled upon your entry here as I searched for some records on my great-grandmother Margaret Mary Farrelly, born in Virginia, County Cavan as well, and wouldn't you know - same parents! :-) Margaret (bron June 1885) married James Bennington (born 1880) in Chester, PA in 1906. One of their daughters, Catharine, married Vincent Desmond in PA and had my mom Catharine Desmond. She married John J. Cooney III in PA and then had my and my two siblings. Would love to connect if you want to. My Uncle Jim Cooney was a huge geneology buff before he passed so i amy be able to get some of his records too. Best wishes!

John,
I don't know how I missed these 2 messages but I did. Yes - we are definitely related! I actually think I might have met your mother years ago. I believe she was friendly with my Aunt Catharine Adams. Catharine was my mother's sister. Is your Mom still living? How did you end up in Indiana? Who are your two siblings? So much to cover!
I have a tree on Ancestry with a pretty lot of information. My member name is basically my name cathieifeldlloyd. So, you should be able to find it if you are a member. If you're not, let me know and I'll invite you to the tree.
Also - I've done my DNA and so have two of my siblings, several nieces and nephews and cousins. So, again, if you've done that, it would be interesting to see if any of us match.
Thank you for leaving this message. Let's stay in touch.

Pat,
I am sorry to take so long to respond. I really appreciate your input. I believe that the Catherine Clarke and Peter Farrelly marriage that you found is my great-great grandparents. I don't know Ireland locations but I googled and it appears to be 10 or so minutes away from each other - Mullaugh and Virginia both in County Cavan. I'm also puzzled by the indication that she might have only been 14 when she married. I have baptismal certificates for several of her children. Some were born in the same parish that Catherine and Peter were married in. Others were baptized at Meath, Kingscourt.
I'm traveling to Ireland on May 20th and will be there for 11 days. I am looking forward to learning even more about my Irish ancestors.
Thank you again.

Hi Cathie. Thanks for reaching out. Had brunch with my mother today and shared your message with her and she does remember your aunt and you, which is especially wild because as she moves further into dementia her current memory is fading fast but her memory for many years ago is still sharp (er).
How fun that you are heading to Ireland later this May. i will be going to Dublin and Belfast in June (golf trip) , so I'll be anxious to hear of your travels and findings. We've been tossing around the idea of getting my Mom Irish citizenship so that we can ultimately do the same for our kids to help open the world for them. Have you ever considered doing so?
My sister Cathy Stoll is in DC area with her husband and two grown boys. I'm here in Carmel, IN with my wife Ramie and our two girls. My brother Colin is down in the Outer Banks. We grew up in Detroit and Birmingham, MI. After college in Boston, I worked a few jobs in Detroit, Houston, and Chicago and then met my wife while in Chicago. We moved to Omaha, NE where our girls were born, moved to Seattle for work, then spent a few years in Ghana for my job, and then in 2017 settled back in the US in Carmel where my wife had family. We moved Mom from MI here to IN this past November and she seems to be well so far. She's excited for us to view some of the Farrelly info I've found online and will be sure to show her your tree. Thanks again for your reply. Looking forward to hearing more about you and your journeys and family. Happy Mother's Day!
