Hello group,
I'm here to report on my recent successes in locating my Great Great Grandparents ( with surname spelling corrections) John BYRNE and his wife,Sera or Sarah NOLAN; married 1857 in Dunleckney - their son, my Great Grandfather James Joseph BYRNE born between February 1871 to January 1872 and 4 other siblings namely: Mary - born about 1865; Bridget - born about 1867- she married Patrick REDMOND 1854 - 1931-son of Moses Redmond and Elizabeth "Eliza or Betty ' MURPHY; Michael - born about 1869 ; Ellen " Ellie " - born about 1874 and Thomas Byrne - born about 1876.
They were found via the Irish Civil and Catholic Parish Birth-Baptism Records in the areas of Kildare and Leighlin,Dunleckney - Fenagh and Myshall - and Ballykeenan, County Carlow ,Ireland which is where James Joseph Byrne was born !
James arrived in the USA in April of 1892 and settled in Pittsburgh,Allegheny county,Pennsylvania. He married Winifred " Winnie" Burns or BIRRANE (Gaelic spelling) in Pittsburgh in February of 1895. I located James' Declaration of Intent - his 1st papers - filed in Pittsburgh,Pennsylvania on 8 April 1909 in which he stated he arrived in New York City on 13 April 1892 aboard the vessel named the "City of Chicag ". By 11 July 1909 - James had died from the Spanish Influenza and Pneumonia;so he didn't live long enough to see his dream come true of becoming a naturalized citizen of the USA.

Great work Marianne!! That site is of great use for family history. If you're interested in learning about how Ireland fared during the Spanish Flu see: Ida Milne, Stacking the Coffins: Influenza, War and Revolution in Ireland, 1918-19.
All the best,
Judy

Thank you Judy Bolger !
Thanks for the recommended readings -I've read those a few times already actually !
It seems my recent discoveries into my familys past in Ireland have been coming in "fits and starts";
I get just enough to make me dig for more.
My advise to anyone searching their roots especially in Ireland is to research the Gaelic Surnames, that was my biggest stumbling block for many years.
I had dismissed a couple of important records here in the states because surnames didn't match with what I knew at the time - years ago - luckily
I kept those questionable records on file and once I started to compare them with the Irish records - I started to find my matches and making new connections !!
I'm grateful to be able to finally stop beating my head against those ancient walls !
Be safe and be well,

Hi again Marianne ,
Presume this is the marriage below 2nd November 1857
https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000634458#page/57/mode/1up
The address given is the same townland where I live .
This below looks like Sarah Byrne nee Nolan in 1901
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Carlow/Shangarry/Bally…
Son Michael is a blacksmith which is the same profession as his father .
Could be possibility for Michael Byrne in 1911
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Meath/Ardcath/Rath/709…
Although on what looks like the above couples marriage entry the grooms father name is given as James Byrne blacksmith .
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_re…
Couldn't locate a definite death entry for either Sarah Nolan or John Byrne .

Good Afternoon -
Thank you again for looking -I have those records on file already.
I've documented 3 generations of Blacksmith's in my Burns-Byrne family
The marriage record for Micheal Byrne & Ellen Boylan in 1908 is questionable because I had located him living with his Mother and sister Ellen in the 1911 Knocklonegad, Corries, Carlow, Ireland census - unless something might have happened to the wife Ellen Boylan between 1908 to 1911.
Regarding John Byrne, I have an possible death record - from Ballykeenan, Fenagh and Myshall, Carlow County, Ireland - Estimated Birth Year abt 1835. Date of Registration:1896 - Oct-Nov-Dec[1896] Death Age 61. Registration district: Carlow-Volume 3,Page 258 FHL Film Number-101599 - this is an indexed record so I can't actually view the file.
I scavanged an unsourced death reference for Sarah Nolan Byrne from another family tree connected to the REDMOND family found on Ancestry .com -
Born about 1841 to 1843 County Carlow,Ireland
DEATH 29 APRIL 1927 • Ballinkillen, Carlow County, Ireland - Sarah would have been between 84 to 86 years old based on that death date

Hi again ,
Just looking at this again here tonight .
See the Byrne family on the 1911 census in Knocklonegad .Looks likely to be your Byrne family .She (Sarah) indicates she married c.1863 and all her children apart from the 2 living wirth her are dead by 1911 .
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Carlow/Corries/Knocklo…
Sarah Byrne death in 1927
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_retu…
Reported as being 90 ,a widow and living in Knocklonegad by her son Michael Byrne .That fits in with the woman in 1911 census record above .
Very possibly death entry for Michael Byrne .Died 29/03 /1951 at Knocklonegad ,single ,smith aged 81 and reported by his sister Ellen Byrne .
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_retu…
Below looks like Ellen Byrne death entry .24/04/1962 aged 80 from Knocklonegad ,single .

Looked at those Ancestry trees .
They have Brigid Redmond nee Byrne dying in Rathdrum Co. Wicklow in 1922 .
Looking at that death entry its reported by her daughter Mary and says she is the wife of an RIC Officer .
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_retu…
This below is I think , the death of the Brigid Redmond married to Patrick Redmond and living in Kilcumney on 1901 census .
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_retu…
The Sarah Byrne living in Knocklonogad on 1911 census says only 2 surviving children .
