James lived in Mullingar from circa 1870 until he died in 1880. He was a constable of Royal Irish Constabulary. He married Susan Jones 1853-1928. They had 3 children, Henry Jones Farrelly served in the Second Boer War 1899-1902. He received the Medal Clasp Entitlement. He remained in South Africa and died in an accident on 9th May 1904 at Bethany, Xharlep District, Free State, South Africa. James and Susan had two daughters, Rebecca and Sarah 1879-1950.
