On the 11th of November, people all over Ireland remember the sacrifices that more than 200,000 Irishmen made when they voluntarily enlisted to fight 'the war to end all wars'.
Many more Irish men and women joined the allied forces in the countries they had emigrated to, and thousands, such as Patrick Conheady and Charles Sharpe, gave up their lives in the ensuing battles.

Originally from Belfast, Charles joined the Canadian Engineers, dying after serving 19 months in the trenches.
Catherine Black 1878
A native of County Donegal, Catherine joined the Queen Alexandra's Imperial Nursing Service at the outbreak of war.
Patrick Conheady 1893
From Tulla, 5 years after arriving in the USA, Patrick was drafted and sent overseas. He was killed in action 5 months later.
