Drake and Lee families, info please

This is the only Ellen I found who was old enough to have married in 1852.

Thank you for that, Patricia.  The only trouble with it is that the family story (my deceased father-in-law) has it that Ellen's father was a William Drake of Oldcastletown.  I took years to find out where Oldcastletown was, and it was that which drew me to Kildorrery.  I, too had found the record of  'your' Ellen.  I also found the Kildorrery record of 'our' Ellen's marriage to Wm Lee on 24 Feb 1852 in Kildorrery sp Wm Drake and John O'Donnell.  

The William Drake of Oldcastletown that I found appears to have married Ellen Daly.  She was buried in Kildorrery 1847 and I have seen a photo of her grave (with her daughter Elizabeth aged 5 years), but failed to locate it in the graveyard when visiting Ireland (my husband's first time) about 5 years ago.  

I am still focussed on Oldcastletown because of the family story, but reluctantly wonder whether this is the correct family.  

Incidentally when we made our visit to Ireland we were delighted to find 'great grandfather's house', Darragh, Limerick, and were warmly invited in by the current owners, who couldn't have been kinder.

Hi My name Rosaleen O Leary. Im researching my family tree. My great grandmother was Margaret Lee. Born to parents john lee and julia hanley on the 14th April 1876. She had brother james and i think John and sisters mary and johanna. There is possibly other siblings. She married Thomas Coffey in 1900 and they had seven children. Thomas coffey is burried in darragh but margaret isnt. Would to find where she is burried. Also would love to find out more about her father- his sibblings and his parents. Kind regRds Rosaleen

Hope you are all in good health and free of COVID.

The Drakes are a genealogy jigsaw puzzle that I have tried to piece together over 30 some odd years.  My great great grandmother was Mary Drake.  She married James O'Regan in 1832 at Kildorrery Church.  They subsequently lived in Tulla/Tully.  I have been told that there house is the Glenroe Cottage in Tully, which was (or is) a B&B, but I wasn't able to locate it when I was in the area.  Their daughter, Margaret, married my great grandfather, Maurice FitzGerald in 1861 and lived in nearby Garryarthur.  Based on snippets of information I came across, my belief is that Mary Drake's family was from Oldcastle.  I think the Drakes and FitzGeralds were related and my suspicion is that the connection was the Ryan name, although the Ryan name is common in the area. There is a headstone of my ggg grandmother in Farahy Cemetery (Kildorrery) errected by my gg grandfather to his mother, Ellen Ryan (d.1798).  Either of you may contact me offline at rfitzg@aol.com and I can share with some of my findings. The Lee and O'Donnell names did pop up in my findings.

Thank you for that information.  I, too, have been trying to do the Drake and Lee jigsaws.  I do know that an Ellen Drake married William Lee (of Darragh, Co Limerick) in Kildorrery (Co Cork) on 24th Feb 1852 (Kildorrery Parish Records).   It is this Ellen's father who I believe was William Drake of Oldcastletown b @1819.  .Annoying, as always, that they came from different counties!  I think I shall have to join Ireland xo (Glenroe) for more Lee information, while hoping for Drake information via KIldorrery.  

Does anyone know whether I can find any records or information about St John's College, Cork or the Royal University of Ireland?  I had always thought my Great Grandfather-in-law, Daniel Lee, had studied medicine at RUI Cork.  Investigations lead nowhere.  I know RUI is now in Dublin, but was there a RUI in Cork too?
