I have an ancestor Michael Lynch, who in 1882 was described as a ‘tradesman’ in Multyfarnham, Co Westmeath. He is my great-great-grandfather, via his daughter Eliza (born circa 1850)
Eliza Lynch was first married in 1877 to a John Reddy (or Ready) at Mullingar. He was an RIC Police Officer who died in 1881. She then married another RIC Officer Patrick Doyle in 1882, with whom she had my Grandma Julia Doyle (later Neary) in Scariff, Clare in 1888.
I have been unable to obtain any additional information on Michael Lynch & if you can assist I would be grateful.
Many Thanks

Jim:
I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland and there is a September 12 1856 baptismal record in Multyfarnham for an Elizabeth Lynch with parents Michael Lynch and Mary Rogers.
There was also an 1836 marriage record on February 11 1836 for a Michael Lynch and Mary Rogers in Mullingar RC parish.
In addition to Elizabeth, I located baptismal records for eight other children all in Multyfarnham: Esther 1839 Margaret 1841 Philip 1843 Edward 1845 Catherine 1849 Richard 1851 Michael 1852 Ellen 1858
The 1877 marriage record for Eliza to John Reddy showed that Michael Lynch was a blacksmith.
Multyfarnham baptismal records start in 1824 so If I have the correct Michael Lynch then his baptismal record would not be available with an 1836 marriage.

Happy New Year
Many Thanks. This is excellent information to aid my search.- and very detailed.
Can you advise if the Roots Ireland site has exclusive info - or is it included in e.g. Ancestry or Find My Past?
I am very grateful to you.

Hi Jim,
Further to Roger's research, I have found Michael Lynch's property records on Griffith's valuation as Eliza's marriage record stated that Michael was from Ballinafid.
Please find attached Griffith's valuation record, which states that Michael Lynch leased land off James Nugent and had a forge in Ballinafid. If you just google Griffith's valuation, you will find him there. The Irishgenealogy.ie website might give you more information on the siblings who married in Multyfarnham or in Mullingar. (both websites are free)
Ballinafid is just up the road from me here in Multyfarnham, so if you need any further information, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Kind Regards,

Happy New Year!
Your question about Roots Ireland versus Ancestry and FindMyPast is a little complicated. Ancestry and FindMyPast about 2-3 years ago, took the data held by the National Library of Ireland https://registers.nli.ie/parishes and accreted the data to their data bases. NOTE the NLI data stops around 1880 Not sure how the process worked.
Roots Ireland data has been accumulated over the years by the various county Heritage Centers so they have more data than NLI and by extension Ancestry/FindMyPast In many counties the baptismal/marriage data goes to 1900 or beyond. Hopes this helps!

Hi Mairead
i don't know if you can help with this, but I have now confirmed Michael Lynch (born c1813 - i.e. age 77 at death 8.12.1890) as my GGG.
As per Rogers reply above I can find the 8 other children named.
However Michael also had a son George - who was present at his death 8.12.1890 in Ballinafid. (Making 10 kids in total!)
In 1893 George Lynch (brother in law) was also present at my GG Patrick Doyle's (Eliza's second husband) death in Killaloe, Clare
George was born c 1865 in Mullingar (from census info) - some time after the other children, when Mary (born c1810) would be about 45.
I can't find any trace of George's birth or baptism. I am interested in him as he accompanied his sister Eliza - my GG to Dublin in later life.
Any info would be appreciated
Many Thanks
Regards
Jim
