Lorna,
Can you be a bit more specific? What time period are we looking at? When was William John born? Did he marry or die in Ireland, if so do you have any rough details?
What denomination was he?
Also you have Fivemiletown & Cookstown are as the location but those places are 40 miles apart. Two completely different areas to search. Can you clarify?
I can see over 180 Early (and variant spellings) in Tyrone in the 1901 census, so the more detail you can give us the more likely we will be able to help.

Mark,
There’s a whole range of records, depending on what you want to know. Some are on-line. Some are paper based and involve a visit to PRONI or other repositories. RC baptisms and pre 1864 marriages are mostly on-line. Methodist baptisms are not. They may be with the church or they may be in PRONI. So it all depends on what you are trying to find out.

William John Earley was also know as John Earley. Born 1853 and died 1912. Married and died in Ireland . I do know I read a birth announcement for his first born..and that William John was an Esq. he was married to Marianne Thom, date unknown. Both were buried behind church in Fivemiletown . Not sure of the name of the church ..it was St Joseph in Fivemiletown They were both protestants. See information I gave regarding my other question. Sorry I was so vague.
thanks for any help....

Lorna,
Hopefully my reply to your other post will have given you the information you want. If not, let me know what it is you would like to know.

i have not found out who William John Earley(1853 DOB) parents were or if he had any siblings. I do know that the first born child of William and Mary his name was Robert born 1876. I wonder if the Robert Earley or Andrew Earley you were speaking of, was maybe William John's father. It seems the farm was owned solely by Andrew in 1826...then the farm was run by Robert and Andrew.

Lorna,
William John’s marriage certificate tells you his father was named Robert (and was also a farmer).
Robert died in 1892 (Wm John was the informant):
His wife was Nancy. She died in 1895:
Andrew Early died in 1878. Probably of an age to be Robert’s brother:
For William John’s siblings you’ll need to search the church baptism records. They are not on-line and are held by the Minister at Orritor Presbyterian church.

Lorna,
That explains it. No I don’t know Nancy’s maiden name. Sadly Irish marriage certificates only record the father’s name and until comparatively recently, death certificates didn’t record a married woman’s maiden name. You might get it from the children’s baptism records at Orritor Presbyterian. (It varies a bit with Presbyterians. Sometimes the records give the mother’s maiden name, sometimes it’s just William & Jane Smith. But worth trying.).
Robert & Nancy must have married before 1845 as I can’t find a marriage for them in the statutory records which start then. That must mean she was a bit older than her death certificate reports. Ages on death certificates then were mostly guesses so that’s not unusual. She was probably at least 10 years older, so possibly married 1834 – 1844ish (Robert was born in 1803 according to his death certificate).
For pre 1845 marriages you need to rely on church records, many of which are not on-line. If you are writing to the Minister at Orritor Presbyterian for the baptism records, you could ask him/her if there’s also a marriage for the couple. Their marriage records start in 1827 and so ought to cover the years you need.
Tradition was to marry in the bride’s church so it’s possible they didn't marry in Orritor Presbyterian. If so, the next place to check would be Kildress Church of Ireland. Their marriage records go back to 1794. I found this marriage for Mary Jane Early of Corkhill (daughter of Andrew) in Kildress Church of Ireland so it’s possible some members of the family were that denomination:
Kildress Church of Ireland’s records have been copied and are in PRONI where they can be viewed free. Or you could write to the Rector/Vicar asking for a search. Expect to pay for that as the Church of Ireland has a scale of fees for searching records held at the church. (It used to be £19 an hour, if conducted by the Rector, but may have changed). The Rector doesn’t have to undertake the search and may just refer you to the PRONI copy.
