This particular marriage of a James Gilhooley took place in 1871. No doubt this Gilhooley is related to mine, but my James came in 1839 and married Bridget Nowlan in 1846 in Sydney.

Where was your James Gilhooley from in Ireland?
I have found the name Gilhuly or Gilhooley varies greatly in spelling in Ireland.
My 4TH Great Grandfather William Gilhuly (1804) left County Roscommon according to his tombstone in 1828.
William and his wife settled in Southwestern Ontario.
One other brother James Gilhuly and his wife joined them here in 1829.
Roscommon is on the west side of Lough Allen, and Leitrim is on the east side.
Do you know if your James Gilhooley was from the area I am talking about?
My 3RD Great Grandfather changed our surname in Canada from Gilhuly to Gilhula around 1860 due to mail mixups.
