Patrick Crawford of Newtownards and Bangor, Co Down

A death in Bangor would be registered in Newtownards. There was only 1 adult Patrick Crawford death registered there in the period 1864 – 1869. He died 21.5.1869 aged 74. You can view the original certificate on-line on the GRONI website, using the “search registrations” option:

Death registration only started on 1.1.1864 so if your Patrick died before that, there won’t be a death certificate.

The Valuation Revision records on the PRONI site show Patrick Crawford’s name against plot 35 in Castle St, Bangor until 1871 when it is altered to vacant. VAL/12/B/23/7C. Griffiths Clerks were often out by a year or two so that might still fit with an 1869 death. 

I have that particular certificate certificate and it is not the right Patrick Crawford who was recorded as a Bachelor and labourer, it was reported by his sister - my Patrick Crawford still had a wife and children living in Bangor in 1864, so they would have reported it. His wife and 3 daughters left Ireland Jan 1869, I assume he died before then.

I played about with the records and found a Patrick Craford who died on 31st May 1864 aged 40. Registered in Newtownards. You might want to look at that one. Otherwise I don't see any likely deaths in the Newtownards registration area that might be your Patrick. (Not every death was registered in the early years of statutory registration, so that's another possibility).
